<strong>Temasek</strong> Life Sciences Laboratory<br />
<strong>Temasek</strong> Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL) focuses on basic and applied<br />
research in the fi eld of molecular biology and genetics.<br />
Affi liated with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang<br />
Technological University, TLL is headed by Emeritus Professor Chan Soh Ha<br />
from NUS. Its research initiatives are reviewed by an international Scientifi c<br />
Advisory Board and its Strategic Research Management Committee.<br />
In 2011, TLL published 59 papers in peer-reviewed journals and made fi ve<br />
discoveries including the specifi c Enterovirus 71 1 monoclonal antibodies<br />
which can be further developed as potential therapeutics.<br />
TLL continues to nurture scientifi c talent from around the world and provides<br />
opportunities for them to become leaders in their fi elds.<br />
Last year, TLL received S$10 million from the Singapore National Research<br />
Foundation (NRF) to embark on aquaculture research focusing on improving<br />
the productivity and quality of the Asian seabass and the marine tilapia.<br />
A joint TLL and NUS team was awarded another S$10 million research grant<br />
for rice research, and partnered the International Rice Research Institute to<br />
develop new and improved varieties which can better adapt to plant diseases<br />
and climatic changes.<br />
A third research grant of S$10 million from NRF was for developing platform<br />
technology for the fl avours and fragrances industry.<br />
