Gangway system
Two elements comprise the gangway system – a watertight side door, and a two-
line lightweight gangway which is built in two sections. The entire mechanism, in
conjunction with fixed stairs in the ship, is designed to work within tidal variations
of 6.5m. The system includes the facility for easy access by wheelchair users with
the provision of an integrated, collapsible elevator for use at high tide.

one of the coastal express
vessels in service along the north
coast of Norway. The wheelchair
elevator is on the left side, folded
and stowed against the bulkhead.
The patented gangway
arrangement is folded and
stowed as a compact unit inside
the side door when not in use.
The system, including the side
door, is PLC controlled, so the
gangway moves from stowed to
horizontal position at the push
of a button.
