EXCELLENCE
Hoistable car decks
Today’s highly competitive shipping industry demands optimum efficiency from ships of
all types. Nowhere is this more true than in RoRo shipping where the mix of cargo can
vary from voyage to voyage or, in the case of ferries, according to season. Maximum
operational flexibility for RoRos can be obtained by the installation of TTS hoistable car
decks that can be quickly deployed or stowed as cargo requirements dictate. Vehicle
ferries can lower them for maximum loading of cars or raise them to provide the
necessary headroom for commercial vehicles.
HOISTABLE CAR DECKS
As TTS car decks are arranged
as a number of panels,
each individually operated,
outstanding flexibility is
provided because only the exact
number of panels necessary for
any specific vehicle mix need be
deployed.
TTS offers hoistable car decks
with a range of operating
systems, top plate covering,
total load and axle load
capabilities and in sizes to suit
each particular installation. Any
combination of these variables
is possible making the TTS
hoistable car decks the ideal
system for your RoRo.
Operation
Alternative variations in
hoistable car deck operating
systems are available, two of
which involve a hydraulic jigger
winch and wire system. Both of
these types can be arranged to
provide a hoistable ramp that
can be operated even when
carrying a full load of cars.
In addition to this, hoistable
car deck operating systems
comprising electric winches are
also available.
Externally-mounted
jigger winch
In this type of installation
the jigger winch is mounted
either vertically inside the
ship’s structure or horizontally
below the deck above, with the
operating wires running through
pulleys in the deckhead to the
platform. In this arrangement
the piping supplying the
hydraulic cylinder is fixed in
place.
Integrally-mounted
jigger winch
For installations where an
externally-mounted jigger
winch assembly cannot be
employed, the winch unit can be
incorporated into the platform
structure under the top plate.
The operating wires extend from
pulleys on the platform to fixed
points on the deckhead. In this
type of installation the hydraulic
supply to the operating cylinder
is through heavy duty flexible
pipes.
In addition to the jigger
winch-operated systems, TTS
offers an alternative in the form
of a cylinder-operated hoistable
car deck system, where a
hydraulic cylinder is located at
each of the four corners of a
panel. With this arrangement
there are no wires involved,
the platforms being raised and
lowered directly by operation of
the cylinders. As with the other
systems, the necessary securing
devices are provided for the
panels in both their raised and
lowered positions.
