Black Graduation Committee
The purpose of Black Grad is to organize a graduation ceremony that celebrates and culminates
the efforts of Black students on the UCSB campus. This ceremony takes place in June and is the
result of the combined efforts of graduating seniors to make the celebration special.

Black Reign
Black Reign was established in 1998 by two Black men who saw the lack of opportunity to
express hip hop culture through dance. In its eight years at UCSB the group has become co-ed,
performing at various on and off campus events including, the Chancellors Reception, Young Black
Scholars, the annual Greek Yardshow, Showtime in Santa Barbara and the Crenshaw High Talent
Show. Many of its members have been featured in mainstream music videos and dance projects.
With its intricate choreography and authentic hip hop flavor, Black Reign has become the primary
dance group on campus. Dance has become more than a form of entertainment for Black Reign as
the group has participated in countless community service functions throughout the year, including
sponsoring a high school dance group with free dance lessons and holding dance workshops
throughout the year. For Black Reign, the sky is the limit and the group hopes to continue to bring
new innovative performances and cultural expressions to UCSB in the years to come.

Black Pioneer Renaissance Organization (BPRO)
Black Pioneer Renaissance Organization is the support system as well as the platform for
the voices of the Black men at UCSB. BPRO’s mission is to increase the number of culturally
responsible Black men who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact
the community. Activities that are planned by BPRO are Black Women’s Appreciation, annual
community outreach program, and a number of workshops that give insight to problems facing
the Black community and what our role is in helping solve these problems. BPRO will meet every
Thursday in the AdCRC at 6:00pm. All Black men are welcome.

Black Student Union (BSU)
The Black Student Union exists to create a safe, supportive and inclusive Black student
community by providing opportunities for all students to increase awareness of Black culture
with an emphasis on Black social, political, and intellectual traditions. The Black Student Union
operates as an umbrella organization to other Black student organizations on campus. The
Black Student Union seeks to challenge its membership to actively address political, social and
cultural injustices while at the same time celebrating and acknowledging the advancement of
underrepresented groups at the University of California, Santa Barbara and beyond.
