Applicants must complete theapplication services on their website for consideration of acceptance to veterinary school. This website alsocontains direct links to all the veterinary schools in the United States. www.aavmc.orgSTEPS TO PREPARE FOR <strong>VET</strong> <strong>SCHOOL</strong>1. Talk with a Pre-Vet Advisor:Most colleges have at least one advisor who counsels thosestudents interested in professional schools. Most advisorswill help you with your course work selection and offerinsights into the application process2. Seek Veterinary Related Experience:Seek veterinary-related experience during your preprofessionalwork, either during the semester or in thesummer months. Volunteer or seek paid internships inplaces such as a vet clinic, farm, zoo, wildlife park, orranch. Keep a record of the time you spend in eachexperience and the type of knowledge you gained from it.It is recommended that you gain experience with both largeand small animals.4. Contact Selected Veterinary Schools:Contact each veterinary medical college you are interestedin and request a packet of information. This will provideyou with an overview of what each selected school has tooffer and how well it suits your goals.5. Visit Selected Veterinary Schools:Visiting selected vet schools is very important. Try to visitat least two veterinary colleges during your selectionprocess.3. Prepare for the Application Process:<strong>Students</strong> must complete all course work and testrequirements before they may be admitted into a vetprogram. <strong>Students</strong> should ideally plan to apply betweenAugust and September of the year prior to the academicyear they wish to attend.ADVICEIs there financial aid available for vet school?Financial aid is available, but packages vary from school to school. Get specific information from the veterinaryschools to which you’re going to apply.What advice do you have for someone without a vet school in their state?You may wish to target those institutions with a larger number of available positions for non-resident spacesavailable.
