Chadsia grevei - Elegant species endemic to
subarid thickets and woodlands of Toliara,
Madagascar between 0-500m elev ation. Looks
v ery delicate but is actually quite drought
tolerant. Heads of long orange-red f lowers in
spring.
Fernandoa madagascariensis - This small
tree has bright red trumpet-shaped f lowers. An
outstanding f lowering tree in warmer climates.
Can handle colder weather but no f rost.
Stereospermum euphorioides - Tree of up
to 20-30m. Flowers in groups, up to 8cm in
diameter, whitish pink. Summer f lowering.
Alluaudia ascendens - Octopus Tree,
sometimes also called lemur trees as the
lemurs hop f rom one to another in the dry
f orrests of Madagascar. These should not be
conf used with Alluay dia procera which is
commenly av ailable in South Af rica. Can grow
up to 15m tall.
