Diamond / CBN Grinding Tools, Electroplated BondSpecial Tools Made to Customer RequirementsPFERD manufacturing strengthsManufacturing tools to customer specificationsis one of PFERD‘s particular strengths.Electroplated abrasive tools are fast-cuttingproducts. Tool bodies of almost any geometrycan be coated with diamond or CBN abrasive. As a result, this tool group is unsurpassedwhen it comes to manufacturing flexibility andsheer diversity of realizable tool shapes.Electroplated tools have high cutting action.Due to their monolayer abrasive coating, electroplated bond tools are comparativelylow-cost items. Their performance propertiescan be varied within a broad range throughthe appropriate choice of grit size. While coarse-grit tools have been found particularlyeffective on soft materials such as, e.g.glass-fibre reinforced plastics, much finer grit isneeded to machine harder surfaces. The galvanically-produced nickel layer is extremelyhard and wear-resistant. The resultingdiamond and CBN grit bond is very hard andallows not only grinding tools but also files tobe produced according to this manufacturingprinciple. Diamond files, for example, are usedon hardened steels and on tungsten carbide. No limitations on shapesand batch sizesElectroplated bond tools can be manufacturedcost-efficiently in customised versions, whether as a one-off tool or in small batches. This allows us to respond very flexibly to individualcustomer needs.Tool bodies of any shape and substrate material(e.g. steel, stainless steel, brass, etc.) canbe coated with diamond or CBN abrasivematerial.PFERD manufacturing options■■Complete new tool■■Coating of new blank (NB)■■Recoating (WB)Please include a technical drawing or fully dimensionedmanual sketch with your purchaseorder and indicate the desired grit size and grittype. If possible, determine the material to bemachined so that the abrasive coating can beperfectly matched to the particular application.Abrasive material can also be applied tocustomer-supplied blanks. For this service, please specify the surface area to be coatedas well as the desired grit size. Note that thethickness of the abrasive layer must be takeninto account to meet final specification dimensionsaccurately.Tools made of steel or stainless steel can beeasily recoated several times provided the toolbody contours are undamaged. The abrasivematerial can be applied continuously or in segments, whether along the circumference and/or on the face side(s) of the tool.PFERD manufacturing optionsComplete new tool Coating of new blanks (NB) Re coating (WB)Tool bodymade by PFERDMaterial that is to be coated■■Steel■■Stainless steel (INOX)■■BrassCustomer-supplied tool bodyMaterial that is to be coated■■Steel■■Stainless steel (INOX)■■BrassRe coating only makes sense for:■■Complex tool bodys■■Complicated contoursImportant:■■Tool body must not be damaged.Material that is to be coated■■Steel■■Stainless steel (INOX)■ ■No brass10 I 205
