Obverse with a pearled circleand beveled rim surrounding a high relief bust of Columbus andthe Latin legend: CHRISTOPHORVS COLVMBVS OCEANIAECLASSIS PRAEFECTVS. The reverse depicts a boatload of menapproaching the shore at left; Columbus standing in the bow andthe Santa Maria in the distance, two other boats leaving her side.Exergue: MCCCCXCII. MDCCCXCII. The medal is accompaniedLot 174 (reduced)by its original fabric covered case which is in a state of almost totaldisrepair.eglit 300 describes this medal as somewhat larger (140mm) andbeing composed of iron.
