It shalloperate by hygroscopic extraction of moisture from the air toactivate the electrolytic process to improve performance. Theground rod can be 100% self activated or initiated with theaddition of water at time of installation. No additional water shallbe required thereafter for the life of the system.The ground electrode shall come in a kit, complete with all thecomponents required to complete the installation. The electrodeshall be const<strong>ru</strong>cted of copper tube with an internal diameternot less than 50.8 mm (2") <strong>and</strong> a wall thickness not less than2.0 mm (0.08").The tube shall be permanently capped on the bottom <strong>and</strong> have aremovable cap on the top. The UL nameplate shall appear on thetop cap. Bentonite clay shall be included in sufficientquantity to be placed around the bottom of vertically installedrods <strong>and</strong> around the horizontal section of L-shaped rods.A permanent, stable, high conductivity, back-fill material that ishygroscopic in nature <strong>and</strong> will not shrink, contract or separatefrom the electrode due to loss of ambient soil moisture shall beprovided in sufficient volume to fill the rest of the hole for thevertical installation <strong>and</strong> around the horizontal <strong>and</strong> vertical sectionsof the L-shaped rod. This material shall be a highly conductivecompound composed of chemically stable materials includinghydraulic cement, high quality calcined carbon <strong>and</strong> rheologicaladditives.An inspection well shall protect the chemical rod, while allowingnecessary air <strong>and</strong> moisture to enter.
