As well as givingmusic lovers an unforgettable holiday experience, the concertmarked the climax of the three-year collaboration betweenCMHK and CCOM on their Baroque Project. The concertwas conducted by the founder of CMHK, Prof. Johnny Poonof the Music Department. Performers included more than80 HKBU students and alumni along with the CCOM. It aims to show governments, individualsand businesses that it is possible for everyone to take actionon this issue of fundamental importance.Seventy-four cities in 62 countries have already committedto taking part in Earth Hour 2009. Hong Kong, togetherwith Beijing and Shanghai for the first time, will switch offlights in iconic buildings and the Hong Kong Tourism Board’smultimedia show “A Symphony of Lights” will be suspended.Colleagues are encouraged to take part in ensuringa sustainable future. But the spirit of his message is very much alive today at HKBU wherephysical development has always been regarded as a key element of our wholeperson approach to education.In 1961, just fiveyears after the foundingof the then Hong KongBaptist College, ourathletes competed inthe first Hong Kong PostSecondary CollegeAthlete Association’sannual sports meet andwith the biggest team among the participating colleges.Courses on physical education have been offered since 1971 when theFaculty of Social Sciences was established. In 1992, the Department of PhysicalEducation was established to offer the first physical education and recreationmanagement major programme of its kind in Hong Kong. Many of usmay not be too familiar with this sport.Mr. Warman Cheng, Lecturer 1 of theDepartment of Physical Education andChairperson of the Hong Kong ChinaKorfball Association (HKCKA), tellsus all about this game that all the familycan enjoy.What is korfball? Why is itso special?Korfball wasdeveloped in theNetherlands in 1902– “korf” is in fact the Dutch wordfor basket. To promote the sport globally,the International Korfball Federation wasformed in 1933, and Hong Kong becamea member in 1989.Korfball is the world's only truly mixedgender team sport. It emphasises teamworkand equal opportunities for men and women.As it is a sport for both sexes, it avoidsphysical contact; one man may guard oneman and one woman may guard one woman.Blocking, tackling or holding opponentsare not allowed.How does one play?Korfball can be played indoors or outdoors. Thecourt measures 20m x 40m and is divided into two halves– the attack and defence zones. Two men and two womenof each team are placed in each zone. You score whenyou throw the ball through the other team's basket, butyou cannot score if you are in the defence zone. Theteams change zones after two goals are scored or athalf-time. Each half lasts 30 minutes.Who can play?Korfball is a sport for everybody. In HongKong, due to limited resources,the sport is promoted mainly atsecondary schools. Last year, morethan 3,000 students were taughtkorfball at PE classes. To find out more about korfball,check out http://www.korfball.org or http://www.korfball.org.hk.你 有 聽 過 「 合 球 」 這 項 運 動 嗎 ? 相 信 大 部 分同 事 對 它 也 沒 有 多 大 認 識 。《 浸 大 校 園 》 請來 體 育 學 系 一 級 講 師 、 中 國 香 港 合 球 總 會 主席 鄭 偉 明 先 生 (Warman) 替 大 家 講 解 。「 合 球 」 是 什 麼 ? 有 何 特 點 ?「 合 球 」 於 一 九 零 二 年 起 源 於 荷 蘭 。 國際 合 球 總 會 於 一 九 三 三 年 成 立 , 致 力 把 合 球推 廣 至 世 界 各 地 , 香 港 也 於 一 九 八 九 年 加 入了 這 個 世 界 組 織 。顧 名 思 義 ,「 合 球 」 講求 全 隊 合 作 , 亦 代 表 組 合 男女 同 場 作 賽 的 意 思 , 是 全 球 唯一 一 種 由 男 女 組 成 隊 伍 的 隊 際運 動 , 強 調 團 隊 合 作 、 主 張 兩性 平 等 。 雖 然 它 是 男 女 混 合 作賽 的 運 動 , 但 賽 例 規 定 , 球 員間 不 可 有 身 體 接 觸 , 在 防 守 時男 隊 員 只 可 防 守 對 方 的 男 隊員 , 而 女 隊 員 亦 只 可 防 守 對 方 的女 隊 員 , 而 阻 擋 、 搶 球 或 其 他 身體 碰 撞 亦 不 容 許 。「 合 球 」 怎 樣 比 賽 ?合 球 比 賽 可 在 室 內 或 室 外 進行 。 球 場 面 積 二 十 米 乘 四 十 米 ,劃 分 為 進 攻 及 防 守 兩 個 區 域 。 每 隊由 四 男 四 女 共 八 人 組 成 , 兩 男 兩 女 分 別 於 進攻 及 防 守 區 域 比 賽 , 球 員 將 球 投 入 進 攻 區 域的 籃 內 便 可 直 接 得 分 , 若 在 防 守 區 取 得 球時 , 球 員 必 須 把 球 傳 至 進 攻 區 , 讓 隊 友 投籃 。 在 取 得 兩 分 後 ( 兩 隊 分 數 一 同 計 算 ) 或 半 場後 , 攻 守 區 域 對 調 。 合 球 比 賽 分 上 下 半 場 ,每 半 場 三 十 分 鐘 。「 合 球 」 適 合 那 些 人 ?合 球 適 合 任 何 年 齡 的 男 女 參與 。 由 於 資 源 緊 絀 , 本 港 的 合 球運 動 主 要 在 中 學 推 廣 。 總 會 每 年都 籌 辦 聯 賽 和 盃 賽 , 超 過 三 千 名學 生 去 年 曾 在 體 育 課 接 受 合 球訓 練 , 而 現 時 在 總 會 註 冊 的 球員 有 二 百 多 人 、 教 練 一 百 六 十人 、 裁 判 六 十 人 、 導 師 五 百人 。Warman 說 :「 由 於 合球 不 鼓 勵 身 體 接 觸 或 碰 撞 ,所 以 十 分 適 合 作 為 全 家 人 一起 參 與 的 親 子 運 動 。」對 「 合 球 」 有 興 趣 ?中 國 香 港 合 球 總 會 逢 星 期 二 晚 上 都 在 石硤 尾 公 園 練 習 , Warman 歡 迎 各 位 同 事 到 場觀 看 合 球 , 在 沒 有 比 賽 的 日 子 , 同 事 還 可 以即 場 學 習 , 親 身 感 受 合 球 的 樂 趣 。想 知 道 更 多 合 球 的 資 料 , 請 瀏 覽 http://www.korfball.org.hk 或 http://www.korfball.org 。Sunflowers or Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers (August 1888) - by Vincent Van Gogh梵 高 作 品 《 向 日 葵 》, 又 名 《 瓶 中 的 向 日 葵 》( 一 八 八 八 年 八 月 )You have a chance to win a gift!
