She has an uncomfortablerelationship with her son Gabriel, whom she brought upsingle-handed after she threw her husband out of the home,upon finding obscene images of young children in amongsthis possessions.CharactersGABRIEL LAWTom MisonGabriel is the son of Henry and Elizabeth Law. His father leftwhen he was seven years old and he has had a difficultrelationship with his mother: she will not tell him anything abouthis father. Gabriel holds on to postcards sent to him by hisfather from Australia, and he decides to visit the Coorong, wherethe last postcard was sent from. He meets Gabrielle York in aroadhouse, and falls in love with her. They leave together but hedies in a car crash shortly afterwards.GABRIELLE YORKNaomi Bentley / Leah PurcellIn 1988, lives and works at a roadhouse in the Coorong, inSouthern Australia. She is an orphan: her parents committedsuicide and her brother was abducted as a small child. Sheplays netball on Tuesdays and visits her family’s graves everyweekend. She leaves the Coorong with Gabriel York in 1988,and is rescued from the car crash by Joe Ryan, who she latermarries.
