Annex D______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Page D1Annex D - Reference InformationDepartment of Trade and Industry (DTI)The Department of Trade and Industry is responsible through its Oil and Gas Directoratefor the regulation and sponsorship of the United Kingdom’s oil and gas resources onshoreand offshore, and for the associated environmental protection regime.Responsibility for petroleum licensing policy and the administration of the licensingprocess lies with the Directorate’s Exploration and Licensing Branch. Licences to explorefor and extract petroleum are issued by this branch.http://www.og.dti.gov.ukEPSGThe European Petroleum Survey Group (EPSG) was formed in 1986. It comprisesspecialist surveyors, geodesists and cartographers from European oil companies. TheEPSG aims to help member companies, and where relevant others, by the disseminationof information, which by generally improving oil industry survey practices and procedures,will contribute to increased efficiency, enhanced quality, improved safety of operations andthe protection of the environment.To encourage standardisation across the Exploration and Production segment of the oilindustry the EPSG has compiled and is distributing a set of parameters defining variousco-ordinate systems and transformations between systems. This EPSG Geodetic Datasetis distributed in an MS Access database and may be downloaded at no charge from theEPSG website (detailed below). The data has been included as reference data in theGeoTIFF raster data exchange specification, in Iris21 (Petroconsultants' data model) andin Epicentre (the POSC data model). It is also included with some applications.http://www.petroconsultants.com/products/geodetic.htmlOpenSpiritOpenSpirit is the E&P application integration framework developed and marketed byPrismTech, which was launched at SEG 98. Based on distributed objects technology andopen standards, it enables interoperability between multiple vendor software applicationcomponents and proprietary in-house software developed by oil companies. It offers dataaccess to and from a variety of exploration and production (E&P) databases.
