Has the Qur’an been revealed for theMuslims only or for the whole humanity?Answer:Qur’an has been revealed for the wholehumanity.Question # 9. Who is a Sahabi (Plural Sahaba)?Answer:Sahabi means a Companion. Sahabi(singular of Sahaba) is the one who wasin the company of the ProphetMuhammad or just seen him (and is aknown Muslim who understood hisreligion and accepted it.)6

"<strong>The</strong> most beautiful namesbelong to Him (Allah)." (Surah Al-Hashr,verse 24).8

Give someexamples.Answer:<strong>The</strong> major sins are those acts whichhave been forbidden by Allah in theQur’an and by His Messenger (SAW) inhis Sunnah (practice of the Prophet).Some examples are: Interest, Adultery,Homosexuality, Gambling, Backbiting,Lying, Stealing, Drinking alcohol etc.Question # 15. What is Ghibat (Backbiting) and itsconsequences?Answer:Ghibat is a major sin. Ghibat is to saysomething about someone which theywould not like you to mention, even if itis true. If it is false, then additionallyit is slander. Severely punishable byAllah.9

What is the Qur’an?Answer:<strong>The</strong> Qur’an is the Word of Allah,revealed to the last Prophet andMessenger Muhammad (bpuh) throughthe Angel Jib-reel (Gabriel) andprotected by Allah from corruption orloss. <strong>The</strong> Qur’an is a collection of Divinemessages which were revealed toProphet Muhammad (bpuh) through‘Wahiy’.Question # 17. What are the six Articles of Faithin Islam?Answer:To believe (1) in the Oneness (Tawheed)of Allah, (2) His Angels, (3) His books,(4) His Prophets, (5) the Day ofJudgment, and (6) that the power ofdoing all actions (good or bad) is fromAllah (Qadr). <strong>The</strong>se are collectivelyknown as Aqeedah.<strong>10</strong>


Question # 18. What is the first obligation in Islam,after taking the Shahadah?Answer:To offer the five obligatory (Fard)prayers (Salah) daily at appointedtimes.Question # 19. What are the Five Pillars of Islam?Answer:(1) Imaan, testify that there is no godworthy of worship but Allah, who is Oneand that Muhammad (bpuh) is theMessenger of Allah, (2) to establish thefive regular daily prayers (Salah), (3) todistribute the Zakah once a year amongthe deserving, (4) to fast (Sawm) duringthe daytime in the month of Ramadan,and (5) to perform the pilgrimage[Hajj] (if capable) to Mecca once in alifetime.11


Question # 20. What does the word “Wahiy” mean?Answer:Wahiy is an Arabic word. It means“Revelation from Allah” to the Prophetsof Allah through the Angel Jibreel.Question # 21. What are the purposes ofrevelations?Answer:Prophets received the word (commands)of Allah through revelations and thencommunicated those to their fellowhuman beings for obeying andestablishing in their personal as well ascommunity life to ensure a pious life onearth and expect Jannat in the lifeafter death.12

How were the revelationscommunicated to the Prophets?Answer:In different ways: inspiration, like in adream, as Allah guided Prophet Ibrahimto make a sacrifice of his son; speechhidden away, as Allah spoke to ProphetMusa; and through the Angel Jibreel, asAllah revealed the Qur’an to ProphetMuhammad (bpuh).Question # 23. When did the revelation of theQur’an begin?Answer:In the Layla-til-Qadr (one of the oddnights after the 21 st of Ramadan) whenProphet Muhammad (bpuh) had reachedthe 40 th year of his life (around theyear 6<strong>10</strong> A.D.).13

What were the verses of the firstrevelation?Answer:<strong>The</strong> first five verses of Surah Al-Alaq(Surah No. 96): “Read, in the name ofyour Lord, who created; created manfrom a clot of blood. Question # 36. What is Sunnah?Answer:Sunnah means a path or way. In Islamicterminology, Sunnah means thepractices of the Prophet (bpuh). It hasthe same meaning as Hadith.Question # 37. Should Muslims follow the Sunnah ofthe Prophet (bpuh)?Answer:Yes, as the Qur’an confirms: “Certainly,there is for you (Muslims), in theMessenger of Allah, an excellentexample (role model).” (WuswatunHassanah: Qur’an 33:21)19

What is the difference between theQur’an and the sayings (Hadith) of theProphet (bpuh)?Answer:<strong>The</strong> Qur’an contains only the unalteredwords of Allah as transmitted throughthe angle Jibreel to Prophet Muhammad(bpuh). <strong>The</strong> Hadith was inspired byAllah but the words were those of theProphet (bpuh).Question # 39. What is Zakah? Has Zakah (payingthe poor-tax) been specified in theQur’an and the Hadith?Answer:Zakah means annual payment from one’ssavings to the poor. <strong>The</strong> Qur’anspecifies that payment of Zakah isobligatory and should be given to theneedy, etc. <strong>The</strong> rules and regulationsfor its collection and its distributionwere given by the Prophet (bpuh) in hisvarious Hadith.20

What is Zakah Al-Fitr?Answer:A Sunnah Muakkada (highlyrecommended) annual charity given inthe last days of Ramadan or on the dayof Eid Al-Fitr (before joining the EidJamat).Question # 41. Mention two famous scholars ofHadith who compiled many Hadiths(Ahadith) carefully in their books.Answer:Imam Bukhari (died 256 A.H.) selected2,761 Hadith from out of 600,000 hecollected and reported those in hisbook Sahih Al-Bukhari. Imam Muslim(died 261 A.H.) selected 4,000 Hadithfrom out of 300,000 he collected andreported those in his book SahihMuslim.21
