In addition to teachingassigned classes the following is expected:a) To promote actively the school and its corporate policies.b) To support the school in meeting its legal requirements for collective worshipc) To participate in performance management arrangements.d) To participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues and parents as outlined in the directed timeschedule.e) To carry out a share of supervisory duties according to published schedules.2) Teaching Dutiesa. Subject Teaching and Learningi. Manage pupil learning through effective teaching in accordance with schemes of work andpolicies.ii) Ensure continuity, progression and cohesiveness in all teaching.iii) Use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricularobjectives and the range of pupil needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils.iv) As required by the Line Manager, contribute in the development of appropriate syllabuses,materials, schemes of work, for the curriculum area.v) Promote development of a stimulating learning environment.vi) Set homework regularly, (in accordance with the school homework policy), to consolidate andextend learning and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning.vii) Work with ALN staff and support staff (including prior discussion and joint planning) in order tobenefit from their specialist knowledge and to maximise their effectiveness within lessons. viii) Workeffectively as a member of the key stage, subject and curriculum teams to improve thequality of teaching and learning.ix) Set high expectations for all pupils, to deepen their knowledge and understanding and tomaximise their achievement.x) Use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect which allows pupilsto feel safe and secure and promotes their self-esteem.xi) Manage effectively the work of any support staff assigned to your classesxii) Plan and deliver quality PSHE lessons in accordance with the PSHE programme. This processshould enable pupils to gain confidence, social and personal skills, understanding of self, andpertinent knowledge.xiii) Maintain a high standard of uniform within the teaching group.xiv) Advise the coordinator of financial needs in the subject, and on request submit requisitions forresources up to the limit set.

Subject Knowledge and Understandingi. Have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculumprogrammes of study, level descriptors and specifications for examination courses.ii. Keep up-to-date with research and developments in pedagogy and the subject area.c. Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting, and Accountabilityi. Be immediately responsible for the processes of identification, assessment, recording andreporting for the pupils in their charge.ii. Contribute towards the production and implementation of IEPs as detailed in the current Code OfPractice particularly the planning and recording of appropriate actions and outcomes related to settargets.iii. Assess pupils’ work systematically and use the results to inform future planning, teaching andcurricular development.iv. Prepare and mark examination papers.v. Be familiar with statutory assessment and reporting procedures and prepare and presentinformative, helpful and accurate reports to parents.vi. Provide information relating to exam entries.vii. Keep an accurate register of pupils for each lesson. Unexplained absences or patterns ofabsence should be reported immediately in accordance with the <strong>School</strong> policy.3) Pastoral DutiesTo be tutor of an assigned tutor group as required, or to substitute for a tutor, and to carry outthe following activities in relation to those pupils.a. Support, Guidance, Monitoring and Reportingi. Consider the pupils' welfare as paramount, and take action in accordance with the responsibility'in loco parentis'.ii. Monitor the social and academic progress of pupils, including the progress in PSHE lessons.iii. Use a counselling approach to help pupils explore thoughts, feeling and solutions to problems.iv. and a summary comment on the overall progress of each member of the Tutor Group.v. Monitor the pupils' attendance, punctuality and absence, and report suspected truancy.vi. Monitor the pupils’ behaviour across the <strong>School</strong>, e.g. detentions, rewards and certificates.vii. Become familiar with pupils' Special Needs and liaise effectively with relevant staff.viii. Bring to the attention of the member of the SMT responsible for publicity any newsworthy items.b. Rewards and Sanctionsi. Inform and reinforce the '<strong>School</strong> Rules' and implement the 'Code of Behaviour' and the 'Policy onRewards and Sanctions'. Tutors have a central role in clarifying to pupils the consequences ofstepping over the boundaries set by school rules and regulations.ii. Collate records of all rewards and incidents of inappropriate behaviour.iii. Check entries in Homework Diaries and take action when necessary.iv. Check daily that correct uniform is worn and take action when necessary.v. Have a detailed knowledge of tutees and play a central role in the negotiations involved informing a 'behaviour contract'.c. Liaising with Othersi. .Contribute to the development of the PSHE scheme of work through scheduled Pastoralmeetings.ii. Consider carefully issues of confidentiality when dealing with pupils, teachers and parents andoutside agencies.iii. Inform colleagues and the Year Head promptly about social or behavioural issues or changesaffecting pupils.iv. Consider carefully who is the most appropriate person to help in a specific situation anddetermining who should make contact, when and how, etc.v. Contact parents after due consultation with the Head of <strong>School</strong>.d. Representing Pupilsi. Take action on behalf of pupils when appropriate, e.g. help formulate a submission, speak for oract on behalf of a pupil at a formal disciplinary meeting.

General Tasksi. Set a prompt and structured start to the morning and afternoon.ii. Ensure rooms are left tidy at the end of each registration period and report damage promptly.iii. To ensure the daily act of collective worship when the form is not in an assemblyiv. Attend the relevant assemblies - unless withdrawing on the grounds of conscience or religion.v. Undergo Basic First Aid training and update courses.b. Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who maybe affected by your actions or inactions.c. Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety & Welfare.SECTION C - Additional Duties5. <strong>All</strong> teachers may be expected to take responsibility for a subject, or aspects of a subject, as appropriate and arerequired to follow policies laid down by their line manager. (In this respect there is a greater expectation placed onteachers paid on the upper pay spine.) Such responsibility is expected of all teachers on main or upper pay spinesand therefore does not qualify for a TLR payment.The expectations of a teacher i/c a subject are:a) The preparation of schemes of work, in consultation with appropriate colleaguesb) To advise colleagues on the availability and suitability of resources.c) Prepare group or set lists, negotiating with colleagues where the timetable requires it.d) Advise the appropriate subject or curriculum coordinator to enable adequate representation ofsubject interests.e) Assist the coordinator in the preparation of self evaluations and reports.f) Prepare descriptions of courses suitable for pupils, parents and students for such publications as thebrochure, options booklet and the sixth form prospectus.g) Make recommendations for books for the school libraries.h) Provide the examination officer with required details.i) Promote the subject by arranging displays of work and materials, and by seeking publicity in thelocal press when appropriate.j) Ensure continuity of work, providing suitable work to be supervised by cover/supply staff .Other tasks detailed below may be negotiated and agreed at the time of appointment and at annual review.These additional tasks are seen as an important part of the <strong>School</strong>'s professional development programme:TLR holders or members of the Leadership group will carry responsibilities beyond the above and these aredetailed in individual job descriptions.This job description will be reviewed annually and may be subject to amendment or modification at any time afterconsultation with the post holder.
