It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we invite youto this annual production sale. Each year we wonder how tochange and make it better than before. We’re excited to onceagain have our dear American and International friends hereand glad to see we are able to share and exchange geneticsback and forth. We do value your friendship and appreciateyou’re support and interest in our program. We are also excitedto share this event with our great Canadian friends and fellowbreeders.I was really honored to havethe opportunity to go to theWorld Hereford Conferencein Denmark and see how ourgenetics have worked in Europefor the last 20 years and be ableto speak at the conference onMarketing and changing withthe times. I was really excited tosee everyone again and realizethat we’ve all been working forthe same purposes and that’s todevelop and promote this greatbreed. I do think however that some of us forget the number onething in a successful marketing program is finding out what thecustomer wants and then giving it to him. I believe as Herefordbreeders we must believe that the industry is changing and theywant lower birth weights and want Hereford cattle with bettercarcass quality. These are two areas we are working on thehardest. For the past 20 years we have been ultra sounding ourcattle and looking for more muscle and marbling. It is reallyexciting to see how far we have been able to come. The REA(rib eye area) EPD on our cattle is huge, showing we do havethe muscling we’ve been looking for. We’re especially excitedWELCOMEGrant and Annette Hirsche(403) 652-4706(403) 652-1173cell (403) 652-8254to see our Marbling numbers also increase dramatically. Thishas not been without effort and struggle, but its coming andwe can’t be more pleased. Our birth weights and birth EPDhave probably changed the most. We used to never have birthEPD under a 4 or mostly 5’s but now our Lot 1 and 2 calvesboast a birth EPD of 1.6 and they are still great calves. Wedo however still have 7 or 8 EPD and must work on loweringthese numbers. This year represents ourfirst calves from our FentonBull and they are exactly whatwe needed. The carcass andmuscling is still prevalent andthey have that great Canadianhair that so many of ourcustomers want. I must keepreminding myself to find whatCorb, “Big John” and John WilsonJohn (918) 214-3356Corb (918) 214-4134We miss Big John. He passedaway in 2006.you want and then try and raiseit. I believe we are doing that inour Lot 1 & 2 calves with greatcarcass and birth numbers inthe top percent of the breed andthe Lot 3 calf in keeping that carcass quality and adding hair. Our heifers also show change and their group will compete inthe American show arena better than ever before and still makegreat cows that can compete with their calves at any majorshow. We thank you again for your past support and friendship. The best friends in our world are you the cattle people. Hopeto see you Nov. 11, 2008.Sincerely,Grant, John and CorbGLEN HIRSCHEFOREMAN(403) 601-6582(403) 462-6556 cellKEVIN HIRSCHE(403) 756-2146DAVE DENNISCattle Foreman(403) 462-6554Justin BergerOur feed manJoe and LaurieHirscheOur cow manGlen and TerryHirscheKevin, Maryann, Tyand Brett HirscheDave, Vicki, Shaneland Sierra Dennisw w w. h i r s c h e . c o mAnna-Liisa and LeoRaatikainenJane, Rick, Tylerand Colton Blum
