Alberto <strong>Meda</strong>, engineerand designer, wasborn in 1945. He livesand works in Milan.<strong>Meda</strong>’s collaborationwith Vitra, which beganin 1994, has resulted ina series of office andconference chairs. Theexpansion of the <strong>Meda</strong><strong>Collection</strong> is an ongoingprocess, resulting innew products whichcomplement previousdesigns.Vitra has been committedto the topic of seatingand the workplacefor over 40 years. AllVitra products benefitfrom this extensiveexperience.<strong>Meda</strong> <strong>Chair</strong> combines aesthetic appeal with structuralstrength. Cover materials can be combined in differentways: double-knitted netweave or leather for thebackrest; leather or fabric for the seat. The form of theleather covered armrests flows into the aluminiumbridge.
Alberto <strong>Meda</strong> has designed acomfortable and flexible chair thatresponds to the sitter's movementswithout requiring a complex mechanismin the seat mount. <strong>Meda</strong> <strong>Chair</strong>successfully combines comfort andtechnology with a new aesthetic.
<strong>Meda</strong> <strong>Chair</strong> featuressynchronised movementsthat respondto the changing positionsof the sitter.The backrest tiltsbackward on twolateral pivot points,causing the seatangle to changesimultaneously.The cover material isstretched ”sling-style”over the frame, therebyenhancing thesupport and flexibilityof the backrest.The synchronisedmovement is controlledby a spiralspring with additionalpneumatic functions,which joinsthe back of thechair to the bridgeunderneath theseat. It allows greatfreedom of movement,but can alsobe locked into positionusing the stopand go mechanism– similar to theswivel office chairversion.Seat height isadjusted using thelever on the right.Stop-and-Go mechanismfor fixed position of backrestangle.
The conference chair complementsthe other members of the <strong>Meda</strong>family. Specific features make itparticularly suited for meetingvenues: lower backrest, slender ringarmrests, four-star swivel base withglides.

Synchronised movements with fine-tuningadjustment of backrest resistance. High backrest.Optional armrests, either fixed or height adjustable,or ring armrest made of polished pressure-cast aluminium.All armrest versions have leather covers. Seatmade of CFC-free polyurethane foam. Sling-styleattachment of seat and backrest upholstery. Backrestcover in a choice of leather or double-knittednetweave. Seat cover in Tesso fabric or leather. In theleather version, the back side of the backrest andunderside of the seat are covered in black fabric. Fivestarbase made of polished pressure-cast aluminium.Twin-wheel castors for either hard or soft flooring.<strong>Meda</strong> Conference <strong>Chair</strong>. Synchronised movement, withfine-tuning adjustment of backrest resistance and swivelmechanism. Medium-high backrest. Optional ring armrestswith leather covers, made of basic dark colouredplastic or polished pressure-cast aluminium. Seat madeof CFC-free polyurethane foam. Sling-style attachmentof seat and back upholstery. Backrest cover in leatheror double-knitted mesh fabric. Seat cover in Tesso fabricor leather. In the leather version, the back side ofthe backrest and underside of the seat are covered inblack fabric. Four-star base made of polished pressurecastaluminium.
