Film Chemicals 

CPAC Europe offers a complete product line for all types of C41 film process. All CPAC Europe products 

have been designed with the customers in mind. The emphasis has been put on process quality, easy 

mixing and reduction of waste. This results in a very customer friendly product line. Through its ongoing 

research and development CPAC Europe is able to offer some unique minilab products and is able to 

combine excellent quality, superior service and very customer friendly products. 

C41 Lorr developer 

The C41 Lorr developer from CPAC Europe is a universal developer and can be used in following processes: 

• C41 

• C41 BNP 

• C41 RA 

• CN16Q 

• CN 16FL 

The replenishment rate varies from 21 to 23ml per film. 

C41 BNP Odourless Bleach 

C-41 

The C41 BNP bleach of CPAC Europe is used in labs with a bleach time up to 4’20 

It is specifically designed to reduce retained silver problems and it will remove all unpleasant chemical odors from 

the lab. It replenishes at 5ml per film. 

C41 RA Odourless Bleach 

The C41 RA Odourless bleach from CPAC Europe is used in minilabs with a bleach time of 45”. It is a ready-touse 

product with a replenishment rate of 5ml per film. This bleach has been designed to eliminate crystallization 

between the bleach and the fixer tank. It has no smell and therefore makes the working atmosphere in the lab 

very pleasant for employees as well as for the customers. 

CN-16Q (Fuji) Bleach 

This bleach is designed specifically for the Fuji 23 process. The replenishment rate is 11ml per film or 50% lower 

than the standard Fuji process. 

CN-16FL (Fuji) Fixer 

This fixer is designed specially for the Fuji CN16 L process 

C41 Fixers 

CPAC Europe offers 3 types of fixer, C41 BNP, C41 RA and CN-16Q (Fuji). All these fixers are easy-to use and 

allow a maximum of recuperation of the silver through electrolytical or cartridge de-silvering systems. They have 

all been designed to reduce the crystallization, inherent to all C41 processes, between bleach and fixer. 

C41 Super Stabilizer 

CPAC Europe’s C41 Super stabilizer is a unique product for the modern minilab. It has been designed specifically 

to resist algae growth and to allow a very clean washing of the film. It reduces cleaning time in the lab and saves 

money because, unlike with other manufacturers, no monthly replacement of the stabilizer is required.

Trelux Developer Starter is used to prepare a working tank solution for all Trelux developer 

replenisher. The easy-to-follow instructions for adding the proper amounts of starter, water

Trelux – X Developer Regenerator 

C-41 Trelux – X Developer Regenerator 

CPAC Europe’s Trelux-X Developer Regenerator is used to prepare developer replenisher 

from CPAC Europe’s C-41 TL-60 developer overflow. 

Trelux-X Developer Regenerator is the first film developer regenerator in a kit. The kit is a 

3-part liquid concentrate which, when combined with water and developer overflow, makes 

developer replenisher. No expensive equipment or highly qualified personnel are required. 

Regenerating with Trelux-X is as easy as mixing fresh replenisher. This unique product will 

help the lab to meet environmental regulations and save money in the process. Most of the 

C-41 developer will be reused while less waste chemistry must be destroyed. Unlike other 

C-41 developer regenerators, Trelux-X is a Low replenishment developer regenerator. This 

results in maximized waste reductions. Trelux-X guarantees very stable process control, 

without the need for any chemical adjustments. 

Process Description 


When film is processed, only part of the developer components are consumed. Most are lost 

via the overflow or are carried into the bleach. By replacing the consumed components and 

neutralizing the contaminants, the developer overflow can be reused as replenisher. This 

is usually accomplished with expensive equipment such as ion exchange. However, CPAC 

Europe’s Trelux-X Developer regenerator eliminates the need for expensive equipment, or 

highly qualified personnel. It neither requires resin cartridges which make Trelux-X a 100% 

dilution based regenerator. The only equipment required is a tank to collect the developer 

overflow and a pump to transfer to the mixing system. The only personnel needed is a competent 

person to handle the mixing. No analytical testing, pH or specific gravity checks are 

required.

Conversion to Trelux-X 

Developer regenerated with Trelux-X is used the same way as Trelux Developer and Replenisher. 

The specifications for time, temperature, replenishment, agitation and filtration are 

exactly the same. However, Trelux-X is only compatible with CPAC Europe’s C-41 chemistry. 

It can not be used with any other brand of film chemistry. Before changing to Trelux-X the 

process must be in control with CPAC C-41 chemistry. Either the developer must be dumped 

and filled with CPAC C-41 developer or the CPAC developer must be replenished on top of 

the existing product. In the latter situation the developer tankvolume must be turned at least 

3 times before starting regeneration. Trelux-X can not be used in all kinds of laboratories, 

please use following chart as a guideline, CPAC’s chemical engineers can help to determine 

if your lab can use the Trelux-X.

The fixer converts the silver halide into a soluble silver Thiosulfate complex. The soluble complex 

then diffuses from the film into the fixer. The rate of silver halide removal is dependent on the silver 

Thiosulfate complex formation and its diffusion rate from the film. The rate of complex formation is 

dependent on fixer temperature and concentration while the diffusion rate is determined by agitation 

and time.

The fixer converts the silver halide into a soluble silver Thiosulfate complex. The soluble complex 

then diffuses from the film into the fixer. The rate of silver halide removal is dependent on the silver 

Thiosulfate complex formation and its diffusion rate from the film. The rate of complex formation is 

dependent on fixer temperature and concentration while the diffusion rate is determined by agitation 

and time. Improper fixing results in retained silver, this gives the film a hazy appearance. Prints 

made from such films will look flat and muddy. The silver can be removed from the fixer through 

electrolysis. The silver is collected at the cathode. By continuously removing the silver during film 

processing (closed loop, in-line) we assure a proper fixing of the film, we maintain a constant low 

silver level, and we drastically reduce the replenishment rate of the fixer. This results in less carryover 

of silver into the wash water, less pollution from fixer overflow, properly fixed films and less cost 

for waste chemistry destruction.

Silver Recovery 

Trelux Electro Fixer and replenisher can be used with any of the electrolytic units currently available. 

We recommend that the silver concentration be maintained between 0.4 and 0.6 g/l. The proper 

current setting to maintain these specifications is very important. If set too high, sulfiding may occur 

which can cause dirty films. If set too low, the silver concentration will rise causing a reduction in the 

silver recovery efficiency or, if extreme, silver halide retention. 

A starting point can be calculated by using the following formula : 

Amps = 0.24 x Rolls processed per hour x Grams of silver per film 

This formula should be used to calculate a starting point. Because of differences in equipment it 

may be necessary to adjust the current. When initially setting the current, the fixer should be closely 

monitored.
