Eckley’s Class, South Hill Elementary2008-2009I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Fourth Grade! This is anexciting beginning, and I am looking forward to working and learning with eachof you.First, to introduce myself…this is my first year teaching 4 th grade at SouthHill, and my second year as a South Hill teacher. Before joining the staff, Iworked at a school in Buffalo, NY, two years in a 4 th grade classroom and twoyears as literacy support staff. I moved to Ithaca last August, and am lookingforward to another great year in such a wonderful community! Just a littlenote, my maiden name is Gingrich, and is still my official last name on paper, soyou may see it occasionally. Now on to the important information…Communication between school and home is very important to your child’seducational success. I will send home newsletters to keep you updated on ourcurrent studies and important upcoming dates and events. We also have a classwebsite, accessible through the South Hill Elementary site, where you will findthese notices and many exciting links. Also, each student has a HomeworkFolder meant to carry assignments (Monday through Thursday) and notices andnotes from school. Students should take responsibility for checking their foldereach night and passing along important information to you. Completed homeworkcan be kept in this folder and returned to school each day.If you need to contact me please call the school and leave a message, or emailme at agingric@icsd.k12.ny.us, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. You will receive a handbook from South Hill that describes expectations forbehavior, the school calendar, attendance policies, etc. Please read it carefully, and save for reference. Also, I have enclosed my classroom expectations that Igo through carefully with the students, and which they are responsible forfollowing. A supportive classroom community where children can take the risksthey need to learn and grow is of great importance to me, and this requireschildren to act respectfully and kindly toward each other.
