The University of Texas at ArlingtonDepartment of Modern LanguagesThe Bart Lewis Memorial ScholarshipStudent Applicant ChecklistStatement of Purpose:The Bart Lewis Memorial Scholarship was established by a bequest from the estate of Dr.Bartie Lee Lewis, as specified in his Last Will and Testament. The award(s) is/are intendedfor undergraduate/graduate students majoring in a Modern Language at the University ofTexas at Arlington. Undergraduate students should have completed a minimum of 12semester credit hours of language courses in the Department of Modern Languages at theUniversity of Texas at Arlington with a minimum overall college GPA of 3.0. Graduatestudents are to have completed a minimum of 12 graduate semester hours in a language atUTA with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Award amounts may range from $500.00 up to$4000.00 as determined by the Scholarship Advisory Committee in the Department ofModern Languages. Students must be enrolled fulltime (12 hours for undergraduates; 9hours for graduate students) to remain eligible for the Scholarship. Graduate students haveto be enrolled for a minimum of 5 graduate hours for the two summers sessions combined,if the award is to be used in the summer. Applicants should submit one (1) letter ofrecommendation; an unofficial copy of your transcript; a copy of your Financial AidStatement and a two-page essay addressing your appreciation for the study of foreignlanguages and/or your intentions to utilize your knowledge of a foreign language topositively impact our world. Applicants/recipients may reapply in consecutive years.
