huskies sprint to topmen, women win indoortrack & field championshipsThe HBU men’s and women’s track and field teams crossedthe finish line with 14 gold medals to win the <strong>University</strong>’sfirst-ever Great West Conference team titles at the indoortrack and field championships held in <strong>Houston</strong> in February.The Huskies’ spree of individual event victories alsoresulted in a sweep of the tournament awards. HBU HeadCoach Theresa Fuqua was voted Coach of the Year for bothmen and women, and senior Morgan Pressley, who broke aschool record in the long jump, and junior Matt Perri, whohelped HBU win the distance medley relay for the first timein the five-year history of the meet, were selected asthe female and male outstanding performers. LakeshaCameron and Garrison Fick earned Newcomer of the Yearaccolades.A group of HBU student-athletes also got word in Februarythat their accomplishments in the classroom lifted themabove the competition. For the second year in a row, HBU’swomen’s cross country team earned recognition from theU.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Associationas a 2012 NCAA Division I All-Academic squad, based onthe team’s cumulative 3.62 GPA – the best in the state ofTexas – in the fall 2012 semester.Clockwise from top:Morgan Pressley, Garrison Fick,Matt Perri and Lakesha Cameron
