WELCOME TO XTERRA & THE “LIVE MORE” SPIRITIn 1996 mountain biking and triathlon met in a duel of thefittest on the island of Maui. The race consisted of an openoceanswim, a mountain bike race, and a trail run. Itrepresented a bold new racing format that attractedoutdoor enthusiasts, adventure seekers, mountain bikersand triathletes. The mountain bikers brought their laid-backstyle and bold self-assurance. The triathletes brought theirhard-core training and avid dedication. They soondiscovered a common “Live More” spirit that pulled themtogether. The relationship flourished into an internationallyrecognizedbrand called XTERRA, and today there aretens of thousands of athletes not only taking part in theraces, but truly living the lifestyle.The typical XTERRA is comprised of the following:1.5 kilometer (0.93-mile) swim in an ocean, lake, or river30 kilometer (18.6-mile) mountain bike on off-road trails10 kilometer (6.2-mile) trail run on a variety of surfaces2013 marks the 18th consecutive year of XTERRA racing,and the 5th straight year the West Championship has beenheld at Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada.The XTERRA West Championship is the first of fourregionals in the America Tour, and offers up $15,000 inprize money for pros and 47 qualifying spots into theXTERRA World Championship for amateurs.
