We use an emergency notification system that allows voice mail, text and e-mailmessages to be sent simultaneously to all campus constituencies in the event of an on- or off-campusemergency. This work was completed in consultation with members of the campus community, localmunicipal agencies and emergency experts, and the system is tested annually.Hobart and William Smith Colleges also work regularly in conjunction with officials from the City ofGeneva and Ontario County to maintain and update emergency preparedness plans. Recently, HWShas hosted an emergency preparedness conference that included a response drill and mock disastersimulations, on-campus fire-emergency training with the Geneva Fire Department, and emergencytraining scenarios for the HWS EMS Corps.Fire Safety: All residence halls contain fire doors, which must be kept closed at all times. In accordancewith National Fire Protection Association and local fire-safety codes, HWS conducts fire drills in allstudent residence halls and classroom buildings periodically to make sure that occupants are aware ofexit locations and emergency-response personnel know their respective and mutual responsibilities.Residence staff will check residence rooms during fire alarms.24 HOBART AND WILLIAM SMITH COLLEGES

Some items, such as laboratorytests and prescriptions, will be charged to the student or the student’s primary healthinsurance carrier. Proof of health insurance is required of all students. Students who do notprovide proof of acceptable private health insurance coverage by the date requested will beenrolled in the school’s health insurance program and be required to pay the insurance fee.Details on the insurance fee waiver procedure will be mailed to your home at a later date.Matriculation/Institutional DepositThe institutional deposit is to cover either damage incurred to property of theColleges or other expenses incurred by the student.
