In addition, the office oversees the HWS shuttle service, which operates seven nights a week on apre-set route from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. This schedule may change. Campus Safety Officers are also available to escort students aroundcampus, especially after dark <strong>and</strong> when campus shuttles are not running.The Office of Campus Safety annually publishes Living Safely, a h<strong>and</strong>book outlining their policies<strong>and</strong> procedures as well as reporting campus crime statistic data. The h<strong>and</strong>book is available online athttp://www.hws.edu/studentlife/pdf/living_safely.pdf.Emergency Preparedness<strong>Hobart</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>William</strong> <strong>Smith</strong> have several procedures in place to address emergency situations as theyarise on campus. We use an emergency notification system that allows voice mail, text <strong>and</strong> e-mailmessages to be sent simultaneously to all campus constituencies in the event of an on- or off-campusemergency. This work was completed in consultation with members of the campus community, localmunicipal agencies <strong>and</strong> emergency experts, <strong>and</strong> the system is tested annually.<strong>Hobart</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>William</strong> <strong>Smith</strong> <strong>Colleges</strong> also work regularly in conjunction with officials from the City ofGeneva <strong>and</strong> Ontario County to maintain <strong>and</strong> update emergency preparedness plans. Recently, HWShas hosted an emergency preparedness conference that included a response drill <strong>and</strong> mock disastersimulations, on-campus fire-emergency training with the Geneva Fire Department, <strong>and</strong> emergencytraining scenarios for the HWS EMS Corps.Fire Safety: All residence halls contain fire doors, which must be kept closed at all times. In accordancewith National Fire Protection Association <strong>and</strong> local fire-safety codes, HWS conducts fire drills in allstudent residence halls <strong>and</strong> classroom buildings periodically to make sure that occupants are aware ofexit locations <strong>and</strong> emergency-response personnel know their respective <strong>and</strong> mutual responsibilities.Residence staff will check residence rooms during fire alarms.24 HOBART AND WILLIAM SMITH COLLEGES
