Report on Artificial <strong>Coral</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> ConstructionReport on Artificial <strong>Coral</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> Constructionbut also as the ceremonial launching of”Adoptthe <strong>Coral</strong> <strong>Reef</strong>” program. The first adoptersincluded representatives of West Java and Ciamisgovernment, UNWTO, private sector, womangroup, school children, and NGO. Each pickedout one “baby” coral, which was tagged by theirname; handed to KMPP divers, who dived andplaced each coral at the artificial reef. Tour Development and PromotionThe coral reef tour package includes the Adoptthe <strong>Coral</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> program. The main objective ofthe tour package is to directly involve communityand tourists to share role and responsibility inenvironment rehabilitation activity. Visitor will beasked to conduct coral transplantation activity in thefield and be a donator in the same time. ‘Adoption’method is similar with ‘adopt the nest’ concept onturtle conservation, while visitor give fund in certainnominal for caring the nest from egg to hatchling.Visitor that involve in transplantation activity willreceive a certificate as an appreciation gift. Besidesinvolving visitor, ‘Adoption’ concept can be ‘sold’ tocompany or private sector; such as hotels and touroperators. The companies will gain “green image” asan environment friendly companyor institution.The tour was further promotedby flyer, which depicts the firstadoption activity in November2008. Press tour, which targetspress and students coming from thevillage where their parents sellingor collecting live shell for souvenirwere conducted in November2008. The invited journalists havejoined the adoption program andpublished articles at newspapercovering local areas and Ciamisregency. The articles were scannedand provided at Annex 1.~ 19 ~The mechanism of the tour is as follow:1. The adoption program is offered to adopters,either tourists, community members, orcompanies.2. The adopters pay an amount of Rp 200,000(minimum 5 pax) per annum, which will be usedto cover:• 1 coral fragment and name tag• Construction cost of the artificial reef• Implantation cost, including boat and divers• Monitoring for 6(six) times. Report will be sentto adopters every month by email.The fund will be shared to: KMPP (80%) to coverall cost and (20%) to LWG for promotion anddevelopment.Image 7. Flyer of coral adoption program
