The new Mikron incorporates
the latest accelerometer sensor
technology and low noise
signal processing software to
deliver a high performance, yet
simple to use, leak locator.
Mikron has very high acoustic
sensitivity and the ground microphone
also includes wind noise isolation. It
has a clear digital display and a key
feature is the ‘Minimum Noise Level’
indication which displays the underlying
constant noise level – so it
does not include transient
noises such as road traffic.
The system also enables
the user to save recent
results for Minimum
Noise Level which
determines if the user is
moving towards or away
from the leak.
Mikron is available as
three options, the Acoustic
Probe, Ground Microphone
or a combination system.
Hearing is believing!
Eureka Digital power’s on
Eureka Digital has been available for a relatively short time and
combined with the successful Eureka 2R and Enigma provide a
powerful correlator product range.
Eureka Digital advances the concepts in the Archimedes correlator. Powerful
digital correlation signal processing gives high performance. It is designed to
provide optimum operation particularly on large diameter and plastic pipes.
The system incorporates:
advanced filtering and coherence
unique correlation tracker feature
definable pipe material + velocity
re-analysis of the digital sound
3 inputs for velocity measure
Ease-of-use is enhanced by:
transmitter integral sensor attaches
directly to pipe (allows closing of
manhole cover on busy streets)
delayed recording such that no
radio range limitation
in-case battery charging
Moscow success
Eureka Digital had further success
during a trial with our partner
Pergam who have been established
in Moscow for 12 years.
Pergam report, “Within a few
minutes Eureka Digital had been
deployed over approximately 500m
across a busy intersection and a
correlation had been established.
The data was analysed and also
stored for further examination.”
The customer, based in
Vologda north east from Moscow,
was extremely pleased as other
manufacturer’s correlators had
failed to establish the leak
position.
New PrimeFlo
expands flow
measurement
products
This rugged ultrasonic flowmeter
compliments Primeprobe2 where
non-invasive flow measurement is
preferred.
PrimeFlo utilises advanced signal
transmission, automatically switching
between transient-time and Doppler
measurement modes to provide
reliable and repeatable data, even at
low flow rates.
PrimeFlo has a built in logger plus
4-20mA and pulsed output connections
PrimeWorksNet…
now available for
Oracle users
PrimeWorksNet has proved popular with
a number on customers now using the
system in preference to single user
PrimeWorks software.
Access by multiple users to centrally stored
data at the same time offers improved control,
efficiency and more rapid action if required.
The system has recently been made available for
Oracle database users as well as those using the
SQL Server database.
Ian Alexander explains
how PrimeWorksNet has
Additional
new features
“We wanted to use Primayer loggers via our Citrix
mainframe and move away from local stand alone PC's.
After approaching Primayer, we worked with them to
design and implement a solution. This is now completed
and we have a system that works via our network.
This makes data available to all our staff, at all locations.
As part of this work we have integrated the data from
PrimeWorksNet to our LMARS reporting system to give us
a total reporting solution. As a result, we now have a
system that can be used via laptops and 3G connection to
our network, or via VPN from home or work locations.”
The Primayer Rental Option
Whether for a specific project,
to supplement existing stocks,
or merely as a reduced financial
commitment, the Rental Service
can provide the solution.
Paul Mason –
European Sales Manager
Paul joined Primayer in June 2008,
immediately setting in place
initiatives to improve support to
customers across Europe.
As Paul explains, “My overall aim is
to increase the market penetration of
Primayer within the European market
place. The initial objective was to improve
the communication and response between
the partners and Primayer, to increase the overall
product awareness.”
Primayer’s knowledge of the
equipment is second to none. This
applies in terms of its application,
reliable performance, the knowledge
of worldwide users and the
current best practice to be
adopted. Furthermore, as
the original manufacturer
the equipment is fully
maintained and calibrated
prior to supply. This means
those renting can quickly
have the capability to fully
exploit the equipment’s
potential.
Sales support reaches across Spain
The Panatec sales team is raising customer awareness of the
Primayer range with water engineers throughout Spain.
Close support from the UK has helped Antonio López and his colleagues
achieve results with new customers over recent months. Antonio is the first
to acknowledge that direct training to exploit the full power of the Primayer
web based information has had a significant influence on this success. We
wish them well for the future.
Norwegian delegation visit Primayer
In late April, our Partners, Jan-Helge Høvset and Severin Eskeland,
from Eskeland Electronics, Norway, organised a two day training
seminar at Primayer.
The training focused on Enigma, encompassing correlation theory, practical
deployment and interpretation of results. The delegation of 19, from a number of large
water companies, also received
training on other technologies. The
delegation was delighted to visit
Portsmouth Water and received a
presentation on the company’s leakage
strategy and a tour by Distribution
Engineer, Richard Keates.

Phocus.sms
Developments and implementation
Phocus.sms is an intelligent
logger which detects the
noise generated by a water
leak. The logger has remote
alarm facility to host PC or
to a mobile phone. It also
gives a visual indication of
the leak noise strength and
a leakage confidence factor.
Key strengths
Immediate awareness of a
leak.
Non-labour intensive approach
- no ‘drive by’ requirement
Minimal leak ‘run time’ as
alarm raised same day
On the
Case!
Primayer recently took
the decision that transport
cases would be in bold
yellow.
The move has already
gone down well with
customers who have
recognised it as good for
visibility and thus safety.
We’re scratching our
heads wondering why we
didn’t do it ages ago!
New features introduced
More frequent ‘health checks’
The Health Check facility was
previously available monthly. In
response to customer demand this
is now selectable as daily, weekly
or monthly.
Reporting
A new tabular report gives status
of all loggers deployed in one clear
table.
Google Maps interface
Google Maps is now incorporated.
This provides a very quick interface
for users to track potential leakage
and manage the network of
Veolia are engaged on a major
project to incorporate sound
monitoring with other key
information, to deliver optimum
leakage management.
organised by IWO South East and
supported by close to 40 water
engineers and technical specialists.
The interesting mix of presentations
interactive and
worthwhile
The event
was held in
Primayer’s
conference
facility at
Denmead,
Hampshire.
As a full
and active
business member of
IWO, Primayer is delighted
to support technical seminars.
At the end of January 2009,
municipalities to the south of
Nantes (in the area of Reze), started
to collect data from the Phocus SMS
noise loggers and incorporate this
into the ‘Lerne’ performance
database system. This is merely the
start; the plan is to take in
information from 450 SMS noise
loggers.
The functionality will enable
operatives to quickly identify an area
where leakage is indicated. By
working within Lerne to collate
noise information with other key
information, such as night flow
rates, the operatives are able to
confidently decide the best course of
action.
New Network
Administrator
Stuart Dawson has recently joined
Primayer in a newly created role. As
Network Administrator he will
oversee important investment in
new hardware and software
systems, plus
provide support
to customers
from
Primayer’s
network
based
software.
The ongoing
growth of the business
has driven this initiative, which will
lead to the streamlining of processes
and improved customer support.
‘Partnering
the partners’ of
Scottish Water
Extending work
into pleasure!
Andrew Allen explains how structured
technical support to consultants and
contractors is benefiting Scottish
Water, as they strive to meet ambitious
targets to reduce leakage across their
water networks.
‘It was clear that Scottish Water
were determined to bring the
very best skills and capabilities
together to assist them in
meeting their operational
objectives, not least for leakage
management.
Having considered their needs,
partner organisations were assigned. In
order for these partners to deliver the
very best performance it has been vital
for them to be in a position to exploit
the ever growing capabilities of the
latest technologies’.
As Regional Sales Manager, Andrew
has been a key person in this process,
In addition to the initiatives above, Primayer has
also been supporting events that bring water
engineers together outside the normal work
environment.
One event in particular was the recent IWO
President’s Dinner, held in Edinburgh in March, where
Primayer were a main sponsor. Another was the
WaterAid, Valentine’s Ball held in Glasgow in
February, where Primayer took the opportunity to
support the event and meet with colleagues in
informal surroundings.
recognising where the full capabilities
for the partners comes from:
Full awareness of the
capabilities of the
equipment.
Ability to exploit these
capabilities.
Targeted training and
onsite support.
Ongoing awareness of the
‘best practises’ to apply.
Confidence that a ‘full
support infrastructure’ is
there for them.
“Mouchel have been
carrying out leak detection
work in Scotland for 6 years,
employing as many 60 skilled
leakage engineers within our
core team. The majority of our
leakage management
equipment in Scotland has
been purchased from Primayer
who continue to provide very
effective after-sales support.
As a long established customer
of Primayer, we are very willing to
trial new products and technologies
to investigate how they can help us
to achieve more for our customers.
Being actively involved in the
introduction of new products
increases our ability to offer clients
improvements with accuracy of
detection, reducing costs and risks
associated with dry holes.”
Andrew Rowland, Mouchel.
“Farrer Consulting
apply the Enigma system in a
number of areas. A recent indepth
'master class training
session' proved invaluable in
helping us to fully understand
the system and its potential.
In particular, knowledge gained
on how to use Enigma efficiently and
how to gain the most reliable results,
is important to us and the service we
provide to Scottish Water.”
David Goodwin,
Farrer Consulting.
“RPS Water in Scotland,
utilise the Primayer Eureka
correlators across our leakage
operations.
We have also used the GSM
survey logger and are currently
trialing the Enigma correlating
loggers. Close support from
Primayer is certainly helping to
ensure we know how we should
use the systems to achieve the most
success in the future.”
Alastair Warwick, RPS Water.
“M&K Faulkner
may be one of the smaller
companies supporting network
management activities in
Scottish Water but our
experience with Primayer
equipment is considerable.
Support with our newer
Primayer products and software
systems has helped us quickly gain
the best from these.”
A focus on two people providing reliable customer support
and product development feedback
Chris Moore
Joel Veron
Joel Veron is a key member
of Eric Laumonier’s French
based Primayer team,
providing targeted customer
support and running the
local service centre.
Joel has worked for the team
since mid summer 2007, performing
a similar role to Chris Moore but on
a more regional basis, to support
customers in France and other
countries serviced by this office.
Understanding customer needs has
helped to overcome problems and
led to important feedback for
Primayer.
World
Water
issues
Remember to let us know if there is a
particular topic or issue you you would like us
to cover in a future future edition of Vision.
Chris Moore has a key role,
operating within Barbara
Hathaway’s customer support
team. As an applications
engineer, Chris knows the
value of getting his hands
dirty when it comes to
supporting water engineers
around the world!
Chris joined Primayer in 2003 and
immediately took on the role of
application engineer, having already
had 7 years experience in the water
industry. Since then he has provided
worldwide support in countries as far
afield as China, Australia, Mexico,
throughout Europe and of course in
the UK. His experience has given him
a truly worldwide perspective on the
needs of water engineers and how
As Joel says, “By providing
training at the office and onsite,
support by email or phone and
targeted field support, it has
been possible to gain an
excellent rapport with
customers. They know that I am
only a phone call away and can
help them quickly when
needed”
them quickly when needed.
best to build their confidence in
Primayer technology.
As Chris says, “helping people
to gain the best from some
products can be quite straight
forward. By contrast, exploiting the
full potential of other products can
be more demanding. When it
comes to working closely with
front line teams, I find that getting
my hands dirty always works well”
An important part of Chris’s
role is providing feedback to
development teams. This feedback
is invaluable. It ensures that
current products in the range are
developed to be as practical and
easy to use as possible and that
genuine user needs drive the
future products.
