From the desk of the CEOReflecting back on the first quarter of the year, Iam pleased with all we have accomplished as aCouncil as I believe this is going a long way tocreating value for our members as well as drivingprosperity within the road freight and logisticsindustry as a whole.Joe Letswalo | National Secretary/CEOThe Simplified Main Collective Agreement waspromulgated at the beginning of January. In line withour role to manage conditions of employment withinour Industry to ensure it runs smoothly, the userfriendlynature of the new Agreement will help manageexpectations by providing better clarity regardingconditions of employment in the industry.Other achievements of the first quarter include animproved turnaround time on Provident Fund payouts,the timeous processing and finalisation of all submittedyear-end applications as well as the launch of ourimproved website.It has always been our quest to provide all ourmembers, whether employers or employees, with areliable service giving them peace of mind. One of thevaluable services we offer to our members is disputesresolution management whereby we conciliate and,when necessary, arbitrate certain categories of disputesthat remain unresolved after conciliation. By ensuringthe fair treatment of our members, we help to maintainlabour peace. The Council also plays a major role inindustry centralised bargaining which ultimately helpsindustry members know what to expect as well as whatis expected of them. This sense of certainty amongstall parties also goes a long way towards securinglabour peace. Through our various service offerings,we also aim to alleviate the administration burden ofadministering agreements. We continually strive to bea trustworthy partner that provides you with the supportthat you need.The Health and Wellness of the road freight andlogistics industry members continues to be one ofour top priorities. I am pleased to report back on thesuccessful HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) outreachprogramme held on World Aids Day on last year by allthe Trucking Wellness Roadside Clinics. We are alsosuccessfully spreading awareness about the Council’sfull range of services at industry employers’ wellnessdays.
