Construct validity<br />

The degree to which the scores of a measurement instrument are consistent with a priori<br />

hypotheses, based on the assumption that the instrument validly measures the construct to<br />

be measured.[1]<br />

Criterion validity<br />

The degree to which scores of a measurement instrument are an adequate reflection of a<br />

“gold standard”.[1]<br />

Disability<br />

Disability in this thesis encompasses the health dimensions within the methodological framework<br />

of The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as categorized in one<br />

of three levels; impairment (body structure and function), activity limitations (activities), and<br />

participation restrictions (participation).[2]<br />

Internal consistency<br />

The degree of interrelatedness among the items e.g. in a questionnaire.[1]<br />

Longstanding hip and/or groin pain<br />

Pain in the hip and groin region of more than 6 weeks’ duration is defined as longstanding in<br />

nature.[3]<br />

Measurement error (variation)<br />

The systematic and random error (variation) of a patient’s score that is not attributed to true<br />

changes in the construct to be measured.[1]<br />
