12. The accused persons / suspects should be arrested and thoroughly interrogated. Theirpersons and also their premises should be thoroughly searched for the murder weaponand in case <strong>of</strong> murder for gain, also for the property/ cash stolen.13. In case chance finger prints or foot or shoes prints have been lifted from the scene <strong>of</strong>crime then on the arrest <strong>of</strong> the accused/suspects, their finger prints and foot or shoeprints should be taken for their comparison with the same lifted from the scene <strong>of</strong>crime.14. In case <strong>of</strong> murder with firearm, all efforts should be made to seize the suspectedweapon immediately before the same is cleaned up and then sent to ballistic expert forexamination.15. If the accused makes a confession, it should be carefully recorded incorporating allrelevant details. He should then be sent to the Court to record his confession by aMagistrate under section 164 Cr.P.C. I/O should then have all verifiable details in theconfession thoroughly verified.If the accused denies the charge and gives statements in his defence, the sameshould also be verified.16. Investigation should be carried out keeping in view the ingredients <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fence <strong>of</strong>murder..17. If the accused is not known to the complainant or to witnesses, but they can identifyhim if they see, then T.I.P. should be arranged soon after the arrest.(B)RAPE CASES:In a case <strong>of</strong> a rape, it has to be proven that the accused had sexual intercoursewith the woman in question under any <strong>of</strong> the circumstances mentioned in Section 375IPC and that there was penetration. While investigating a rape case, I/O must alwayskeep the ingredients <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fence <strong>of</strong> rape in mind.There are three sources <strong>of</strong> clues in a rape case, i.e. the scene <strong>of</strong> crime, thevictim and the accused.SCENE OF CRIME: The I/O should look for following clues at the scene <strong>of</strong> crime:-(i) Any sign <strong>of</strong> disturbance. In case it is outdoor, sign <strong>of</strong> disturbance on the soiland vegetation. In case it is indoor then sign <strong>of</strong> disturbance in the room like thearticles that may be found disturbed or broken.(ii) In case it is outdoor, presence <strong>of</strong> footprints <strong>of</strong> the accused and the victim.(iii) In case it is outdoor, a sample <strong>of</strong> soil should be collected from the P.O forcomparison with the same which may be found on the person or clothing <strong>of</strong>the accused.(iv) If the victim was wearing glass bangles, broken pieces may be found at theP.O due to resistance <strong>of</strong>fered by her.(v) The P.O. must be carefully searched for blood stains, semen, hair, etc. and als<strong>of</strong>or any article that might have been left by the accused like handkerchief, etc.The victimI/O should collect the garments <strong>of</strong> the victim that might contain blood, semen,foreign pubic hair, etc.The victim should be got medically examined immediately and the M.Oshould be specifically requested to(i) Look for scratches or bite marks on the body <strong>of</strong> the victim or tears in thevagina.(ii) Look for exchange <strong>of</strong> pubic hair and also hair from the victim‟s head whichmight have been clutched by the victim.(iii) Looked for presence <strong>of</strong> blood or skin <strong>of</strong> the accused under the victim‟s fingernails due to scratching inflicted on the accused.(iv) Look for recent sign <strong>of</strong> intercourse, presence <strong>of</strong> smegma, rupture <strong>of</strong> hymen.Go top
