FASTHUG Vincent J-‐L.Crit Care 2005; 33(6):1225-‐30.
Methodology
Results DRP capture FASTHUG-‐ MAIDENS (N=2; 9 patient encounters)Non-‐FASTHUG-‐ MAIDENS (N=3; 45 patient encounters)p value * 43/61 (70.5%) 119/227 (52.4%) 0.012 * using Chi square test
Discussion • FASTHUG-‐MAIDENS adds important DRPs to Hepler-‐Strand classiaication – Medication reconciliation – Antimicrobial stewardship à cost savings? • Tailoring Abx therapy; IVà PO step down; stop dates • Useful tool for: – Pharmacists covering ICU – Training purposes – Quick checklist during rounds for ICU clinicians
• Sample size not met – Type I error? Limitations • Difference in baseline event rates – 90% vs 70% capture rate • Confounding variables – Differing levels of patient acuity – Inter-‐preceptor/inter-‐resident variability • Time requirement for study paperwork
Conclusion • FASTHUG-‐MAIDENS may be effective for promoting increased DRP capture rate when used in the ICU
