Seniors Week Positive Ageing Award<strong>Byron</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>Council</strong> wishes <strong>to</strong> formally acknowledge those many seniors who live, work and play in<strong>Byron</strong> shire and volunteer <strong>the</strong>ir time <strong>to</strong> help and inspire o<strong>the</strong>rs, be it on a one <strong>to</strong> one basis or as amember of a group.This award is initiated not only <strong>to</strong> recognise <strong>the</strong> work that an individual does <strong>to</strong> assist o<strong>the</strong>rs in <strong>the</strong>community, but in <strong>the</strong> way <strong>the</strong>y demonstrate a positive attitude <strong>to</strong>wards ageing.If you know of someone aged 60 and over who is actively involved in our community and making adifference <strong>to</strong> one person, or <strong>to</strong> a group of people, we invite you <strong>to</strong> nominate that person forrecognition.The ‘Seniors Positive Ageing Award’ will be open for nominations from 20 February and will closeon 12 March. The award will be presented at <strong>the</strong> Mayor’s Morning Tea during Seniors Week 17-24March.Nomination forms are available at <strong>the</strong> back of this booklet, and can be downloaded from <strong>Council</strong>’swebsite at <strong>the</strong> following link http://www.byron.nsw.gov.au/older-people or available at <strong>the</strong> locallibraries.‘Inspiring NOT retiring’ Art CompetitionBrunswick Heads Library’s Art Competition opens on Monday 25 February and closes on Thursday21 March with entries being judged and announced during Seniors Week.Entries <strong>to</strong> be in conjunction with <strong>Byron</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>Council</strong>’s Seniors Week <strong>the</strong>me Live Life InspiringNOT Retiring. The mediums of pho<strong>to</strong>graphy, drawing and painting will all be accepted. Workshould not exceed 20cm x 30cm or thickness of 3cm and able <strong>to</strong> be displayed using double sidedtape. It is suggested that work be presented on backing board. Entries <strong>to</strong> be titled and named.For more information contact Mark on 6685 1816.Brunswick Valley U3A Pho<strong>to</strong>graphy Competition ‐‘Inspiring NOT retiring’This competition is for <strong>the</strong> younger set in Brunswick Valley and covers <strong>the</strong> primary schools inMullumbimby, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores and <strong>the</strong> smaller schools in between. Coordinatedby Brunswick Valley U3A, <strong>the</strong> competition opens on 25 February with <strong>the</strong> winners beingannounced at <strong>the</strong> Mayors Morning Tea during Seniors Week on Tuesday 19 March. Pho<strong>to</strong>graphswill also be displayed at this event.The three categories for entries are: Kinder <strong>to</strong> Year 2, Years 3 <strong>to</strong> 4 and Years 5 <strong>to</strong> 6.
