<strong>Sunbeam</strong>’s Safety PrecautionsSAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR YOURSUNBEAM URN.• Exercise extreme caution when moving the urncontaining hot water.• Empty the contents of the urn beforeattempting to lift or move it.• Always use the urn on a flat, level surface.• Do not operate the urn without water.• Do not leave the power cord near the edge of abench top where children may touch or pull it.• Boiling water will scald. Do not leave a boilingor hot urn near or where children may touch it.• Boiling water may be ejected, if overfilled.<strong>Sunbeam</strong> is very safety conscious whendesigning and manufacturing consumer products,but it is essential that the product user alsoexercise care when using an electrical appliance.Listed below are precautions which are essentialfor the safe use of an electrical appliance:• Read carefully and save all the instructionsprovided with an appliance.• Always turn the power off at the power outletbefore you insert or remove a plug. Features of your Café Series ® UrnWater gaugeThe water gauge indicates the urns large 8 litrecapacity and can brew over 50 cups or as few as 8cups of tea or coffee.Dual-wall stainless steel bodyCreates enhanced insulation and makesthe urn cool to touch.Non-drip tapCool-touch, non-drip tap has a convenient2-way pouring action. When filling large itemspress the tap forward and down for a continuousflow or for a quick-fill hold the tap back and release.2400 watt concealed elementPowerful 2400 watt concealed elementaids in reducing heat-up time. Once thewater starts to boil the urn switches to energyefficiency mode and maintains the water at asimmer using only 160 watts.Extra long 1.5 metre cordIdeal for functions when the urn needsto be set up in a safe and convenient place for use,and any un-used cord can be stored in the base.2

Using your Café Series ® UrnBefore using your Urn.It is recommended that you clean your urnbefore first use by filling the urn up to themaximum level indicator, boil and thendiscard water.Using your Urn.1. Completely pull out the power cord fromthe base of the urn.2. Place the urn on a dry, flat, level surface.3. To fill the urn, turn the locking lidclockwise (See Figure 1) and remove. Usea smaller container to fill the urn betweenthe minimum and maximum marks.4. After filling the urn, ensure the lid isrepositioned and turn anti-clockwise to lockinto place.Note: The lid should always be locked intoposition when in use.5. Connect the plug into a 230/240 Volt ACpower outlet. Turn the power ON.6. Turn the control dial to the ‘ON’ positionand the amber heating light will illuminateSee Figure 2.Figure 2Figure 17. The amber heating light will remain onuntil the urn has boiled. Once the waterhas come to the boil the amber heatinglight will switch off and the red readylight will illuminate. The urn features anautomatic thermostat that maintains thewater at a slight simmer.4


8. To pour hot water, place a cup under thetap and push and hold the tap back for aquick-fill. For a continuous pour press thetap forward and down. See Figure 3.Quick-fill9. After use, turn the control dial to ‘OFF’,switch the power off at the power point andremove the plug.Note: Always empty the urn before moving.Note: Never carry or move the urn when inoperation.Continuous pourFigure 3Note: Use caution when pouring water fromthe urn, as boiling water will scald. Do notpour the water too quickly.Note: If re-filling is needed proceed withcaution as when the lid is removed steammay escape from the top.Note: When in use steam may escape fromthe steam holes on the top of the urn. Care and CleaningAlways disconnect the urn from the poweroutlet before cleaning.Never immerse the urn switch area or cord inwater, or allow moisture to come into contactwith these parts.Removal of mineral deposits.Mineral deposits in tap water may causethe interior of the urn to discolour.To remove this build-up, use <strong>Sunbeam</strong> LiquidDescaler, a simple to use, non-toxic cleaneravailable from <strong>Sunbeam</strong> Appointed ServiceAgents.To clean the stainless exteriorThe stainless steel surface may be wiped overwith a damp cloth and polished with a softdry cloth.CAUTION: Do not use chemicals, steelwool,or abrasive cleaners to clean the outside ofthe kettle, as these will scratch the stainlesssteel surface.Cleaning the concealed heating elementThis urn features a non-corrosive stainlesssteel heating element. Over time, scale maybuild up on the concealed element inside theurn, causing discolouration that may havethe appearance of rust. Be assured this isnot rust. If this occurs clean with a greenScotchbrite ® scourer or similar and a suitableabrasive cleaning cream. Rinse and cleanthoroughly with tap water before using yoururn again.6
