Getting back on the roadHow do I apply for a driver licence? You can apply for a driver licence at any Department of Transport and Main RoadsCustomer Service Centre. Remember, you must not drive until you have beengranted a driver licence. This means you must not drive to a customer servicecentre to apply for your driver licence. At the customer service centre, you must tell the issuing officer that a court hasordered your disqualification to be removed and that you now want to apply fora driver licence. The officer will tell you whether you need to apply for a learnerlicence or a provisional licence and whether you need to pass a written testand/or a practical driving test. The type of licence you are eligible to apply for andwhether you will be required to take a test depends upon how long you have beendisqualified from holding a licence and the type of licence you held before youwere disqualified. If you are granted a provisional licence rather than a learner’s licence withoutbeing required to pass a driving test, it will only be for the class of vehicle forwhich you previously held a licence. If you want to drive a new class of vehicle, you will have to apply for a learner licence for that class of vehicle.Legal Aid Queensland21
