In the past the Board has been concerned with the accuracy andtimeliness of some of the returns and that some employers started a teacher’s employmentbefore registration was granted. As awareness and understanding of the requirements of theAct increases, so too does compliance.21 teachers were in breach of section 73 of the Act.This year, as a consequence of the audit, the Board noted that almost every instance of noncompliancewas a consequence of failure to renew registration. Where non-compliance wasidentified, letters were sent to both the principal, the teacher and to the Chief Executive Officerwhere relevant, advising them of their obligations under sections 72 and section 73 of the Act.No prosecutions were instigated.25
