increasing <strong>and</strong> it is important that this is recognised in financial terms as we move forward.Our <strong>Trust</strong> has seen a significant increase in some dem<strong>and</strong>-led services over the past threeyears, yet we have managed to effect major efficiency savings totalling approximately £70m,<strong>and</strong> delivered patient <strong>and</strong> client care to all.We are fortunate to be part of a hardworking <strong>and</strong> committed health service family – <strong>and</strong> to bein productive partnerships with a range of organisations to tackle health <strong>and</strong> social inequalitieswhich is our overarching purpose, set out in the <strong>Trust</strong>’s vision document The <strong>Belfast</strong> Way.All of us also have a responsibility for our impact on the environment. We have a <strong>Trust</strong>Environmental <strong>and</strong> Sustainability group aiming for example to reduce carbon emissions fromour vehicle fleet – <strong>and</strong> I have been particularly impressed to see the work being done on heatrecapture, energy efficiency <strong>and</strong> carbon reduction across our estate.The pages that follow in this report describe an outst<strong>and</strong>ing year’s work.I congratulate the Chief Executive, William McKee <strong>and</strong> his senior team for their leadership <strong>and</strong>for what has been achieved during a very challenging 12 months.May I also take this opportunity to record my sincere thanks to my non-executive colleagues onthe Board of Directors.People who get an appointment letter from hospitals in this <strong>Trust</strong> or who experience any of thewide ranging support we provide across the community can be assured they are in safe h<strong>and</strong>s.Pat McCartanChairman<strong>Belfast</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>Trust</strong>3
