The History of Alyn WatersDuring the 16th Century the Park was part of a large country estate withGwersyllt Hall as a focal point. The owners sided with the Royalists duringthe English Civil War and in 1645 the Hall was severely damaged bypillaging Roundheads. They dugout the sand and gravel laid downby retreating glaciers thousands ofyears before and the sand andgravel was used to build the giantLlyn Brenig Dam high on theDenbigh Moor.Domestic landfill operations tookplace on some of the formerquarried areas but this wasclosed by the mid 1980 ’ s. Wrexham Maelor Borough Council bought muchof the land in 1988 and designated the area as a country park in 1989.
