The bottles seem half full and I run out of my dropsbefore the month is out. You have taught me how important compliance with mymedication is, but the pharmacy won’t refill my prescription before the 30 daylimit...What can I do?Well, great news for New Yorkers! On October 20, 2011 Governor Cuomo signedinto law the NYS Ophthalmological Society’s-initiated bill requiring insurance companiesto refill prescription eye drops prior to an insurance company 30-day supplylimit. The law is in effect as of October 20, 2011. Thanks to the efforts of Senator Salandand former Assemblyman Bing who sponsored this bill.It is just so important not to forget to take those eye drops. The pressure fluctuationsin the eye should be minimized as much as possible. Swings in pressure can be very harmfulto the optic nerve, which translates to loss of vision. I educate my patients as to theimportance of compliance to preserve and help prevent future visual loss from glaucoma.Debra S. Guthrie, MD“eye care to the people”dguthriemd@gmail.comConcerns raised by the attendees rangedfrom stop signs to be installed in the west &east direction of 62 Street & 39 Avenue, speed bumps near P.S. 11 and St. Sebastian’sSchool, and a request for a minimum of 1pick-up of public trash each day by theDepartment of Sanitation along RooseveltAvenue. In addition, residents reportedincreased violence in the Woodside Parklocated at 60 Street & Woodside Avenueduring the early hours of Saturday and Sundaymorning and requested foot patrols inand around the specified area.Thomas Ryan, Zakir Howlader, Assemblyman MichaelDen Dekker, David Rosasco. The Woodside Neighborhood Associationwill be holding a general meeting later inNovember.
