Dear Mr. and Mrs. Citizen,I know you are interested in what happens in Eastern West Virginia. You care about our neighborsin need, protecting pets and animals, advancing art and theatre, improving local educational programs, and ensuring safe and fun recreation for our families and children. Most Americans want what is best for their families and neighbors. We care about where we live. That is why the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation was founded. Our only purpose isto support the local needs in Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan Counties. That is what we do.But, we do it with your help. Your gifts of $10, $50, $100, $500 or more will help fund specialprograms that you and I care about for eastern West Virginia, for good, for ever. (You can evenspecify—exactly—where you would like us to devote your gift!)I've lived here for 16 years, and in West Virginia most of my life. And, as the president of theCommunity Foundation, I've seen, first hand, the difference we can make when like-minded neighborsand citizens gather our resources for the greater good. Our vision is to build a permanent endowment for Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan Counties. Inother words, rather than spend the gifts you and others make to the Community Foundation, we investthem, and distribute earnings as grants and scholarships to local charities and college-boundstudents—forever. Last year, we made grants totaling more than $50,000 to the community. Grants toteach low-income children how to play the violin . . . to buy gymnastic equipment in local recreationalfacilities . . . to support summer art and theatre programs for area children. And, we gave 13scholarships to some of the best, brightest (and neediest) high-school graduates in the Panhandle. From art and culture to education to recreation to health and faith-based programs, we welcomeyour investment in our community. We are your neighbor, your co-worker, your local businessmanager. Your gift made today—no matter what the amount—will be dedicated to our community, ourtowns and countryside, and all of us who call it home, forever. Please be generous.Yours very truly,Tia McMillanPresidentP.S. Our 2002 Annual Report can give you more information about our work. Please use the enclosedreply slip to request your copy and to send your contribution to the Community Foundation. With bestwishes for a New Year filled with good health and good times, thank you.
