what’s happening atM o n t h l y N e w s l e t t e r • A p r i l 1 , 2 0 0 8 • Vo l u m e 3 I s s u e 8Dear Friends,Hopefully spring break has allowed us all to recharge our batteries for the last lap of the year. Those of uswho teach and work at Woodlynde really welcomed the time off after all the efforts extended on the PAISevaluation. We certainly began the vacation on a favorable note based on the positive comments that PAISChair, Dr. Lynald Silsbee, and Vice Chair, Steve Piltch, shared with us during their summary presentation. We will get the official written report with its commendations and recommendation in early May.April and May are incredibly busy months with a wide range of activities that are highlighted throughoutthis newsletter. We particularly look forward to the “Go the Extra Mile” Social and Auction later thismonth, the Art Show and Grandfriends’ Day in May, and of course, Commencement. As you review the calendar, I hope you will make an effort to join us and support your children and ourschool. Your presence at Woodlynde events makes a powerful statement about your commitment to yourchildren and to their school. They will probably never admit this, particularly as they get older, but yourattendance - at an athletic contest, or one of the extraordinary dramatic or musical performances thatshowcase our lower, middle and upper school students, or the Arts Banquet, Field Day, or one of the ParentCommunity Association monthly meetings – really does please them. And it unequivocally reinforces themessage that you care about their education and their school. So enjoy the imminent warm weather and the panoply of colors that signal nature’s rebirth. We lookforward to seeing you “around the campus” as we prepare for a strong finish to this “Go the Extra Mile” year.Cheers,Hench Murray“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.”Abigail Adams (1744-1818)Woodlynde School | 445 Upper Gulph Road Strafford, PA 19087 | 610.687.9660 | www.woodlynde.org

All aspects of the production, fromthe costumes and lighting to the visual and dramatic effects, were outstanding and the actors trulybecame their Shakespearean characters, a la Duke’s Diner in the 1950’s. Our students gave realpizzaz to Shakespeare’s story, while seeming to have a ball themselves. Special thanks go to facultymembers David Simson, Adam Kupersmith, Gretchen Schroeder, Jeremy Carver, JessZielinski, Adrienne Feldman, Sally Brodie and Bill Jacoby. The recent production of The Emperor’s New Clothes allowed every child in our Lower Schoolto perform, either on stage or as a singer, much to the delight of their parents, grandparents, andfriends in the audience. The roguish tailors led the King and his subjects through their doubts, pretenses, and finally to the reality that their leader was parading around in his red long underwearin the humorous and value-laden fairy tale. Our guest director, Benjamin Kanes, worked withthe UT 3 and UT 4 students to create all the colorful characters, and Michael Simmons, taughtall the grades their musical numbers providing the perfect support and backup for the actors. Aword of thanks to all the lower school faculty, especially to Penny Moldofsky, the UT3and UT 4 teachers, as well as Jenn Hanak for the fabulous costumes, Shelly Kerner,Denise Pritchard, Sally Brodie, Jeremy Carver, and students, Sarah Crawford, David andMichael Alonso.ANNUAL FUND 2007-2008John and Mary Jo Williams, Annual Fund Co-Chairs, encourage every parent to “pleaseconsider making a contribution.
