E DITORIALDear Reader,Greetings. The economies of India and Canada have withstood the onslaught of therecent global economic meltdown. With both countries celebrating 2011 as “TheYear of India in Canada”, there have been hectic ministerial interactions andexchange of trade missions between the two countries in the last few months.Canada's Minister of Trade and Minister for the Asia Pacific Gateway Ed Fastundertook a week-long, four-city, India tour from 3 to 9 November, during which heheld discussions with representatives of the Government and business and industryassociations to boost the two-way trade and investment between the two countries.Minister Fast met his Indian counterpart, Minister for Commerce and Industry AnandSharma, for carrying forward negotiations on a Comprehensive EconomicPartnership Agreement (CEPA). A 250-member business delegation, led by BritishColumbia's youthful Premier Christy Clark would be visiting this country from 11 to 17November to project the economic strengths of her Province and to promotecollaborations in the fields of mining, energy, transportation and education. Thecover story of the current issue of Indo-Canadian Business highlights the visits of boththe high-powered missions. Infrastructure is one area in which Canada is a leader ofglobal repute. No wonder infrastructure received the top most priority in Canada's2011 budget. However, it is in the area of infrastructure that India woefully lagsbehind and is in need of both investment and technology, both of which Canada canoffer. We present an assessment in this regard.
