On the Spot job cards - Highflyers Publishing

I would like this:Ask each student to pick a card that interests them and then say why theymight like to do that job. Encourage them to think about whether they haveever used any of the tools or equipment for that job. Have they ever done anywork like this on work experience, at home, for a friend or relative, in school orcollege. You could then repeat the process by asking them to pick a job cardthey would really not like to do and then get them to say why.I know someone who does that!Ask the students to pick a card which shows a job that someone they knowpersonally does. Ask them to think about that person and then look at thecard. Do they use these tools? Do they wear this sort of clothing? Do theylike their job? (If they cannot answer the question, consider letting them take acopy of the card home to show the person and to get them to tell them abouttheir job.)Job watch:Arrange to take students to visit a workplace (eg. a shopping mall). Take alongcards for the jobs they may see (shop assistant, car park attendant). Ask themto watch people working carefully (you may need to agree this with the peoplefirst) and then tick off the tools and clothing they see being used. They mayalso want to keep note of equipment they see but which is not included on thecard.Guess who!Take a card, photocopy it and then cover over the job title and picture at thetop, and the job title on the back. Then give the card to a pair of students andask them to try and work out which job the card is about. (You may want togive them a list of suggestions to choose from if an open ended choice is toohard).Doing what?Ask the students to work in pairs. Give them a card and then ask them toanswer the questions on the card. This could be used before or after workexperience or visits to work places.These are just some ideas. We are sure you can come up with lots more.
