What are the full fees at the Schools?The fees for the academic year 2013/2014 are:Old Palace of John Whitgift SchoolSeniors £12480 a year £4160 a termTrinity School£13716 a year £4572 a termWhitgift School£16356 a year £5452 a termWAYS of qualifying fora reduction in feesThere are two methods: Scholarships and Bursaries1. SCHOLARSHIPSYour son or daughter can win a scholarship to the school becausehe or she is particularly talented. Each school has its own separatearrangements for awarding scholarships and further informationshould be obtained from them. The value of a scholarship can beup to 50% of the fee. Scholarships include those for academic ability,music or sport.2. WHITGIFT FOUNDATION BURSARIESBursaries (reduced fees) are available to a limited number ofparents whose child wishes to attend Old Palace of John Whitgift,Trinity or Whitgift Schools and whose income falls below a givenlevel. At Old Palace of John Whitgift School it applies only to pupilsfrom Year 7.As funds are limited, a bursary award will be offered to a selectednumber of pupils following the entrance examination and they willretain a bursary place throughout their time in the school subjectto annual reassessment and satisfactory academic progress. Bursariesare awarded at the sole discretion of The Whitgift Foundation.Applications for financial assistance by the parents of a pupilnot granted a bursary award on entrance to the school willbe considered at the time there is a change in the parentscircumstances but, as only a set sum of money will be available, anaward will only be granted in very exceptional circumstances andparents are urged to take out a school fee insurance policy tocover such an eventuality.What will I have to paytowards tuition fees?The following will give you an idea of whether you would qualifyfor assistance and how much you might have to pay.Your contribution to fees will depend on your family’s ‘relevantincome’. Relevant income will normally be the total of the income(before tax) from all sources of both parents and any unearnedincome of all your dependent children. Then an allowance of£2,000 is taken off this total for each dependent child in full timeeducation.Assets are taken into account when considering whether to awarda bursary, which includes equity in property.Relevant income is normally assessed for the income tax yearbefore the school year in question. For example, relevant incomefor the school year 2014-2015 will be based on income in the taxyear 2013-2014. You will have to provide evidence of your incomesuch as Form P60 or End of Year Accounts and Inland Revenue TaxReturns.The following table gives some examples of what parents wouldhave to pay in the school year 2014-2015 if there are one or twobursary holders in the family. If you have three or more pupils ona bursary, a different scale will apply. This table is only a guide. TheFoundation will calculate the amounts you will have to pay. You willnormally be asked to pay the fees either at the start of each term,or by monthly direct debit.The amount of assistance will be reviewed every year so you willhave to provide details of your income annually.How do I apply for a Bursary?Before your child sits the entrance examination all the necessaryforms and information will be given to you. Your bursaryapplication will be assessed by the Foundation Office and, if youare to be offered a bursary, you will be notified at the same timeas you are offered a place in the School. All completed bursaryforms should be returned to the Clerk to the Foundation.Forms should not be returned to the schools.Can my child obtain a Bursary anda Scholarship?Yes. Both are applied to the fees due; the scholarship is deductedfollowed by any bursary amount awarded, subject to certainminimum contributions.What are the minimum parentalcontributions to the fees?Details of the 2013-2014 full fees are set out in this leaflet. Wherebursaries and/or scholarships are awarded, a minimum parentalcontribution is due depending on relevant income levels.What happens if my incomefalls suddenly?You should immediately write to the Clerk to the Foundationexplaining the circumstances and giving as much detail of yourfinancial situation as possible – for example, if you have beenmade redundant enclose a copy of your redundancy notice andentitlement. Whilst a bursary may not be awarded, you maybe able to reach an agreement for payment over an extendedperiod.What about divorced parents?Providing the divorce is finalised before the child sits the entranceexamination, the parental contribution will normally be assessedon the relevant income of the parent who has actual custody ofthe child, plus the income of his or her spouse or partner.Maintenance is included in relevant income, and the Foundationreserves the right to ask for income details of both parents if it isdeemed necessary.Other expenses?Bursary grants do not cover the cost of uniform, travel, trips orschool meals although some families may be eligible for help withmusic lessons. ‘A’ level and GCSE examinations are charged toparents at the cost levied by the Examination Boards. School tripsare often heavily subsidised.Since 1596, The Whitgift Foundation has followed the aims of itsFounder, Archbishop John Whitgift.
