Certification/Registration<br />
Graduates meet all existing requirements for<br />
membership and certification by the Canadian<br />
Association <strong>of</strong> Speech-Language Pathologists and<br />
Audiologists (CASLPA); membership by the <strong>Ontario</strong><br />
Association <strong>of</strong> Speech-Language Pathologists and<br />
Audiologists (OSLA); and licensing from the College<br />
<strong>of</strong> Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> (CASLPO). Registration with CASLPO is<br />
required by law for pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in Audiology and<br />
Speech-Language Pathology practicing in <strong>Ontario</strong>.<br />
Facilities<br />
The School <strong>of</strong> Communication <strong>Sciences</strong> and Disorders<br />
houses academic, clinical and research facilities for<br />
specialized instruction in Audiology and Speech-<br />
Language Pathology, including laboratories and<br />
audiovisual/computer based learning facilities.<br />
The School also <strong>of</strong>fers the in-house H. A. Leeper Speech<br />
and Hearing Clinic that provides well-equipped facilities<br />
for assessment, therapy, counselling and research<br />
<strong>of</strong> hearing, speech, language and voice disorders,<br />
facilitating an integration <strong>of</strong> academic and clinical<br />
experiences. Clinical education is supervised by fulltime<br />
specialists in Audiology and Speech-Language<br />
Pathology who are members <strong>of</strong> the teaching faculty.<br />
The School is home to the National Centre for Audiology<br />
(NCA), Canada’s largest audiological research program.<br />
Researchers at the Centre undertake basic and applied<br />
research relating to hearing and hearing disorders.<br />
Research at the NCA is conducted by an interdisciplinary<br />
team including audiologists, computer specialists,<br />
engineers, hearing scientists, musicians and speech<br />
scientists.<br />

THE SCHOOL OF KINESIOLOGY ensures a balanced approach to discovering<br />
and exploring the uniqueness <strong>of</strong> human movement through both bioscientific and<br />
sociocultural inquiry. This involves studying the structures, mechanics and functions<br />
<strong>of</strong> body parts involved in movement as well as associated mental, emotional and<br />
cultural factors. The School <strong>of</strong> Kinesiology is accredited by the Canadian Council <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrators (CCUPEKA).<br />
Program Objectives<br />
1. To encourage students to think critically, apply theory<br />
to practice and to test ideas.<br />
2. To develop in students an appreciation <strong>of</strong> and<br />
commitment to the importance <strong>of</strong> personal health<br />
and fitness.<br />
3. To motivate students to strive for a level <strong>of</strong> excellence<br />
within an educational environment where intellectual<br />
achievements are highly valued, where pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
preparation is nurtured and where life enrichment<br />
through physical activity is viewed as an essential<br />
