Modules in Health Sciences
Not sure where to specialize? The health sciences modules
let you explore a broad spectrum of health, including
healthy aging, health promotion ethics and health,
occupational health & safety, palliative care, quality of life
and alternative therapies, in addition to courses from the
other available health sciences modules.
Honors Specialization (9.0 courses)
Major (6.0 courses)
Minor (4.0 courses)
Module in Health Information
Management
Healthcare is an information-based business. All
interactions occurring within the healthcare system involve
the collection and storage of information. The quality
of this information ultimately determines the quality
of individual care and service provided. Inadequate
management and improper use of this information can
lead to medical errors. The proper use and management
of this data is the basis for study in this module.
One of only two undergraduate programs in Health
Information Management in Canada certified by the
Canadian Health Information Management Association
(CHIMA), the Western program includes both practical
and theory-based courses in a field where career
opportunities abound.
A field placement is required in fourth year.
Honors specialization (12.5 courses)
Module in Health Promotion
How do you motivate people to change their behaviors
when they know what they are doing is going to lead to
poor health, illness or even death?
Health promotion, which can be described as “making
the healthier choice the easier choice”, is a multidimensional
field that requires knowledge in the social
sciences and life sciences.
Health promotion will provide you with the theory to
look at issues surrounding health behaviors. Through
applied courses and a practicum experience, you will
use knowledge to develop programs aimed at improving
overall health and changing behaviors.
A field placement is required in fourth year.
Honours Specialization (10.0 courses)
Modules in Rehabilitation Sciences
Explore the theories underlying rehabilitation of
children and adults. Study the impact and effects of
mental health, disease and human movement in this
new program. This is the perfect program for students
interested in entering rehabilitation sciences programs
and working with people who have special needs.
