Hereafter, one companionof these children can alsoavail of this concession.Under the scheme, visuallyimpaired persons are beinggiven foldable walking canespainted in white and red. Forthis, the Chief Minister hasordered supply of reflective foldablecanes to be provided to5,000 visually impaired personsat an expenditure of Rs.10 lakhs, an official releasesaid.Besides, at present, a maintenanceassistance of Rs.1,000 per month is being providedto 77,112 mentally challengedpersons who cannottake care of themselves ontheir own. Aimed at increasingthe number of beneficiariesunder the scheme, the percentageof disability eligible for gettingthis assistance will be reducedfrom 60% to 45%.To reduce dropouts, cash incentivesare being given tothose studying in Classes 10,11 and 12. Jayalalithaa hasordered extension of thisscheme to students of specialschools run by the DifferentlyAbled Welfare Department andGovernment-recognized specialschools.For students of Classes 10and 11, Rs. 1,500 will be givenas incentive, while Class 12students will get Rs. 2,000. Thisamount will be deposited inTamil Nadu Power Finance andInfrastructure DevelopmentCorporation Limited.
