Properties of spaceand structures: dimension, shape, size, position.Humans as a standard and criteria.A1.2 Materials and forms (6 ECTS)The goals are to gain an understanding betweentheory, vernacular architecture, architectural styles andpractises with new technologies. The student will learnabout materials and forms (structures) in historicalperiods – from pre-historic times till present day.A1.3 Architectural Theory and Criticism (3 ECTS)Basic terms; codes and styles; Vitruvius’s editionof ancient heritage; deconstruction of Vitruvius’sbiography; Alberti’s reinterpretation of Vitruvius;from tractates to manifestos; 19th century: dieStilfrage; 20th century: functionalism; development ofarchitectural theory in Slovenia; critical analysis.A2.2 Urban anthropology (5 ECTS)Introduction into the basic laws of interaction,co-dependence and co-evolution of man andanthropogenic materially-spatial environment onthe level of human settlements, from the primitivesettlements to modern mega-urban agglomerates. Thecity is approached as a biophysical–symbolic complexsystem. The relationship of characteristics of socialstructures, urban structures and its development isanalysed from economically-ecological, technological,communication-symbolic and axiological aspect. Thecollege also introduces into the basics of systemmethodology which enables analysis of the complexityof urban phenomena. As alternative contents(students’ choice), the focus is on performing fieldresearch.A1.4 General Safety (3 ECTS)Systematic research of hazards in the builtenvironment and possible construction measures toprotect from these dangers: fire safety, occupationalsafety, pollution protection.A2.1 Urban Geography (5 ECTS)The student is acquainted with the subject of studyand the content of urban geography. The studentacquires knowledge of theoretical starting points andthe methodology of geographical study into the spaceof a city. The student is trained to use the knowledgefor the purposes of research and application.
