EUPAVE BelgiumMaximising Sustainability in Concrete Road ConstructionEnvironmental BenefitsContactAfter construction, the surface characteristics wereevaluated. The evenness, measured using a LongitudinalProfile Analyser, was excellent with the exception of somesections where, in the right-hand lane, the profile had tomatch the level of the adjacent old hard shoulder. For thecoefficient of evenness CE 2,5 a maximum value of 35is required, but 90 % of the results were below 25and 70 % below 20. The skid resistance was checkedwith the SCRIM. The transverse friction coefficientmust be at least 0.48. The results varied between 0.60and 0.87 with 84 % of them above 0.70.In terms of rolling noise, a reduction of more than 3dBA was achieved with the two-lift paving techniquecompared to the traditional single-layer exposed aggregateconcrete with a maximum aggregate size of 20 mm.EXPOSED AGGREGATE SURFACELuc RensManaging Director5cm TOP LAYER18cm BOTTOM LAYERCRCPEUPAVEVorstlaan 68, 1170 BrusselsTel : +32 (0)2 645 5255, +32 (0) 479 78 00 21Fax: +32 (0)2 640 0670info@eupave.eu5cm ASPHALT15 to 20cmEXISTING LEAN CONCRETE BASEInternational Road Federation Innovative Practices for Greener Roads Back to Table of Contents I 24
