The Collected Teachings of Ajahn ChahBrahmin who makes oblations to achieve some wish.In our practice we don’t ‘make oblations’, we don’t practise in orderto get some return. We don’t want anything. If we want something thenthere is still something there. Just make the mind peaceful and have donewith it. But if I talk like this you may not be very comfortable, becauseyou want to be ‘born’ again. All you lay practitioners should get close to the monks and see theirpractice. To be close to the monks means to be close to the Buddha, to beclose to his Dhamma. The Buddha said, ‘Ānanda, practise a lot, developyour practice! Through studying the required subjects, thus allowingMr. Choo to become teacher Choo. When teacher Choo dies, the studyto become a teacher still remains, and whoever studies it will becomea teacher. That course of study to become a teacher doesn’t disappearanywhere, just like the Truth, the knowing of which enabled the Buddhato become the Buddha. So the Buddha is still here. Whoever practises and sees the Dhammasees the Buddha. These days people have got it all wrong, they don’t knowwhere the Buddha is. They say, ‘If I had been born in the time of the34
