<strong>Job</strong> <strong>Profile</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Headteacher</strong>ISR: L16 – 24Responsible to: Executive <strong>Headteacher</strong>/GLF Schools’ Head of Primary EducationDate: September 2013Context and Purpose particular to the role:<strong>The</strong> <strong>Headteacher</strong> will support the Executive <strong>Headteacher</strong> (<strong>for</strong> the remainder of 2013-14) in the leadership andmanagement of Springfield Primary School. She/he will carry out his/her professional duties with due regard tothe provisions of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of teachers’ dutiesset out in that document, the policies and requirements of the Local Governing Body and GLF Board as well ascurrent education and employment legislation.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Headteacher</strong> is accountable to the GLF Board <strong>for</strong> the standards achieved and the conduct, leadership,management and administration within the scope of their specific areas of responsibility. This job profile issubject to annual review and may be renegotiated and modified in response to the changing needs of theSchool.<strong>The</strong> core purpose of this role is:<strong>The</strong> <strong>Headteacher</strong> will work alongside (the Executive <strong>Headteacher</strong> and) the Leadership and Management Team[LMT] to provide professional leadership and management of the School. To achieve success <strong>for</strong> all members ofthe school community within a culture of continuous innovation and rigorous review, the <strong>Headteacher</strong> will:• lead the School’s future by shaping and contributing to vision, leadership and direction• promote excellence, equality and high expectations of all children in both academic andextracurricular achievements• deploy resources effectively to achieve Springfield Primary School’s aims and to support anddevelop its distinctive ethos as a primary school in Spelthorne• evaluate per<strong>for</strong>mance and identify priorities <strong>for</strong> continuous improvement• carry out day-to-day management, organisation and administration• create a safe and productive learning environment that is engaging and fulfilling <strong>for</strong> all students andstaff• exploit modern technologies and education initiatives to enhance achievementKey Responsibilities1. Main purpose• To provide strong, innovative and collaborative leadership• To fulfill the duties of a <strong>Headteacher</strong> in accordance with the School’s vision in promoting effectivelearning <strong>for</strong> all children• To work in partnership with the Executive <strong>Headteacher</strong> and LMT in providing the vision andleadership to create, maintain and develop the conditions which enable children and all staff toachieve the highest standards in learning• To work collaboratively with other school leaders as appropriate


2. Main duties and responsibilities• To ensure that the entitlement of all children is met through inclusion in all areas of school life• To take an active role in children’s social, emotional and educational development• To ensure positive behaviour management strategies supporting all children’s social and emotionalaspects of learning• To actively contribute to the policies and aspirations of the school, providing inspiration and supportto the ongoing development of an outstanding school• To provide <strong>for</strong> the learning experiences of all children and staff across the school and use theoutcomes effectively to improve learning <strong>for</strong> all• To lead by example demonstrating an enthusiastic approach to the development of a personalisedand innovative whole school curriculum• To lead areas of strategic planning which identifies priorities and targets <strong>for</strong> ensuring that childrenachieve high standards and make progress, increasing teachers' effectiveness and securing schoolimprovement• To lead the school’s effective use of assessment and target setting to track underachieving childrenand support the SENCO in the planning <strong>for</strong> intervention• To coordinate the induction of students, volunteers and any visitors to the school• To support, develop and challenge newly qualified teachers during their induction period• To continue to develop the Breakfast and After School Club opportunities in order to develop anoutstanding provision• To work in partnership with GLF Schools regarding the effective deployment of physical resources• To work in partnership with GLF Schools and governors to recruit staff of the highest quality• To lead and manage staff ensuring effective use is made of time, e.g. rotas and responsibilities• To work in partnership with the GLF Schools in ensuring that policies and practices take account ofnational, local and school data and inspection and research findings• To work in partnership with GLF Schools and LMT in monitoring, evaluating and reviewing theeffects of policies, priorities and targets through classroom observations and planning• To communicate effectively at all levels with children, staff, parents, governors, outside agenciesand the local community• To act as line manager <strong>for</strong> the purposes of Appraisal/Per<strong>for</strong>mance Management <strong>for</strong> appropriatestaff• To attend and lead governing body meetings and prepare reports in conjunction with GLF Schooslas appropriate3. Leading and managing staff• To be responsible <strong>for</strong> leading and developing colleagues’ per<strong>for</strong>mance so as to maximise theprogress of all children• To create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships amongst all members of the schoolcommunity• To set targets, monitor per<strong>for</strong>mance and review the progress of staff according to theAppraisal/Per<strong>for</strong>mance Management cycle of the School• To lead curriculum initiatives that support the development of enriched and innovative experiences4. Learning and teaching• To ensure that learning and teaching is at the centre of the School’s decision-making• To teach within the framework of present and future policies, paying particular attention to thepolicies <strong>for</strong> equality, safeguarding of children, special educational needs and behaviour <strong>for</strong> learning• To follow all assessment procedures in line with policies and guidelines• To plan and prepare both long and short term work <strong>for</strong> the needs of each individual


• To monitor the children’s progress through rigorous tracking procedures that evaluate progress andachievement• To communicate and consult with families of children, reporting to families following the School’sprocedures5. School ethos• To foster in the children a sense of responsibility and caring towards the facilities of the School andits environment• To establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, children and families• To plan and develop a classroom environment which will be stimulating and conducive to a rangeof activities and promotes a variety of learning styles6. Staff development7. Resources• To plan and implement shared professional development – in consultation with GLF Schools –offering guidance, support and advice to colleagues in this area• To attend appropriate courses, disseminating in<strong>for</strong>mation, keeping staff updated of developments• To audit and order resources, monitor funds linked to the School Development Plan and within thebudget allocation• To ensure that the procedures <strong>for</strong> the storage and use of resources are efficient and effective insupporting the work of the school.This job description should be read with regard the Statutory Teachers’ Pay and Conditions documents.Every ef<strong>for</strong>t has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of this post, however, each individualtask undertaken may not be explicitly identified.
