SERVICE PROJECTOPPORTUNTITIESFifty years ago one of the most tragic incidents inAmerican history happened right here in Dallas,Texas. This November, on the 50th anniversaryof the assassination of President John FitzgeraldKennedy, the world will shift its gaze and look toDallas. The hope of #JFKDAY is that the world willsee a city living out the legacy of a man who calledthis great nation to serve their communities whenhe said, “ask not what your country can do for you,ask what you can do for your country.”The #JFKDAY campaign: [Run, Serve, Remember]brings together, under a united front, a series oftwo events: a 5K run and a Day of Service. Citizensof North Texas will run in their community, servethose in need in their community and rememberthe legacy of the man who originally called themto action. On November 23rd, 2013, the Day ofService, thousands of volunteers will participate incommunity service projects at over 50 cites acrossDallas County.Scouts are invited to assist with the 5K run and thecouncil-adopted For the Love of the Lake serviceproject, or any other project, on the Day of Service.Texas Discovery Gardens is requesting the help of2013/2014 Eagle Scout candidates to make six to tennew wood picnic tables and benches. We would like tohave recycled materials used if possible. We are the firstpublic garden in the state of Texas to be 100% organic, and we want our outdoor seating to reflect our values.
