PACIFIC-RIM CONFERENCE ON MULTIMEDIA 2008 in TaiwanNational Cheng Kung University, Tainan, TAIWAN 9~12 December 2008Call for Special Sessions:The Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia 2008 (PCM’08) will take place in the National ChengKung University, Tainan, TAIWAN, December 9-12, 2008. PCM'08 will include several specialsessions in the technical program. Work included in the special sessions is expected to representthe state-of-the-art and highlight the important research directions in multimedia research.Each special session will consist of 5 invited papers. The session organizer will be responsible forthe selection of these papers. It is encouraged that the session begins with an overview paper onthe topic being addressed and remaining papers follow up with technical contributions on the topic.The following information should be included in the proposal:• Title of proposed session• Session abstract (state the importance of the topic and the rationale for the session)• Name/affiliation of organizers (including brief bio and contact information)• List of the invited papers, each with author names / Title / an abstract (300–500 words).Proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness of the topic, relevance to PCM, as well asqualifications of the organizers and quality of the paper abstracts in the proposed session. Pleasenote that all papers in the proposed session will be reviewed to ensure the quality of thecontributions. Once the proposal has been approved, the organizer(s) will organize the reviewprocess. Each paper should receive at least three reviews. The organizers send theirrecommendations to the Special Session Co-Chairs for final approval. If a significant number ofthe papers are rejected after peer-review for an approved Special Session, this Special Sessionmay be cancelled. If a proposal is not accepted, papers in that proposal can still be submitted tothe regular sessions.Recommended, but not required, topics include:1. Video Mining2. Human-Multimedia Interaction and its role in Multimedia Analysis3. Success Criteria for Multimedia ApplicationsSubmission Procedure for Special Sessions:Those who are interested in organizing a special session should submit a proposal adhering to the aboverequirements by email to Dr. Ajay Divakaran at ajay.divakaran@yahoo.com and Dr. Shuqiang Jiang atsqjiang@ict.ac.cn . All the papers in the special sessions should follow the same style as the regular PCM papers.
