Families are eligible for services if they have a child with a severedisability, under the age of 21, and living at home. A severedisability is a physical, mental or emotional limitation whichseriously restricts the child’s ability to carry out basic daily livingactivities such as self-care, learning, communication, mobility,and self-direction.Although family living income is not a basis for eligibility, costsharingmay be required on a sliding fee scale.Family Support is a state-funded program. Because each countyhas limited funding for this program, eligibility does not guaranteea family will receive services. Agencies may have waiting lists forservices and assessments. Administering agencies may makethe final decision on who is served and approve each family’sservice plan. Head Start must serve children withdisabilities.
